    Arowana advice

If you put a glass cover on your pond then fish couldn't jump out, but then people might walk on it and break it lol My LFS had a full grown arowana up untill they decided to change locations. It was a beautiful fish and if the tank it was in wasn't attached to another 5 massive tanks I...

    DIY cannister filter

when I make mine, I think I will use the fittings that came with my powerheads to connect them to ugfs so that it will fit snugly and I won't have to worry about it fitting to the hose :D Your filter looks good, hope it dries out okay and everything. Also, have you considered adding carbon?

    Arowana advice

well, considering I haven't found a website with a tank over 250g yet and I don't have space for such a tank I think an arowana is out of the question.

    DIY cannister filter

awesome, I'd look for something with clamps to hold the lid down. Good luck!

    DIY cannister filter

I saw a DIY canister filter that used 2 jars, 1 for filtration and 1 for a heater and it ran off 1 pump so I'd Imagine that as long as either the intake or the outtake hose was attached to the pump and everything was sealed with silicon besides the lid (which needs to be air tight) then there...

    Arowana advice

wow, I'm not sure I have room for a tank that big. I'm also pretty sure my floor isn't level, but I have carpet so I cant be 100% sure. I have a sub-pump in my room but the floor is tilting away from it lol

    DIY cannister filter

I've actualy seen a few other people make these DIY canister filters and i'm really ancious to get started on the project, but I've ran into trouble with one of my 55g tanks. It isn't sitting level, I think its because the stand isn't heavy enough for carpet (its the iron stands) but I'd love to...

need help with under gravel jets

I was never considering a UGF, I have under gravel jets, it uses PVC pipe hooked to a pump or power head to create current in a tank

need help with under gravel jets

Well, my tank's all set up and aside from one of my jets being alot stronger than the others the system works great. It may not prevent gravel syphoning, but it should decrease them. Using the 2 weaker pumps was probably a mistake in the long run but they were ALOT easier to install lol...

need help with under gravel jets

I ended up using 1/2'' tubing. I found a peace that fit screwed into threaded pieces and held the pumps perfectly secure, but it swivels around (I can use the suction cups that came with it). I couldn't Imagine using bigger tubing in a 55g tank though, I used all 45 degree and Tee fittings...

    DIY inline heater?

It sounds like it will work, but it'll be hard. Good luck!

    DIY inline heater?

If you get an auto shutoff heater then you should have no problems putting it into a DIY canister filter, but I wouldn't recommend making one that big. The pressure going through the container would probably make it leak open in one spot or another so making it easy to clean yet air tight would...

    dwarf Gouramis

55g but I have pearl gouramis and they can get up to 5in. I plan on getting 1 dwarf for a 10g though with a few small fish. Gouramis are huge fans of thick foliage, but unless you do a planted tank and buy the expensive lighting then you should buy ALLOT of fake plants. And gouramis also like...

    DIY cannister filter

good luck, I'll probably start looking for a container, but I'm in the last stages of my malawi tank and won't be able to set up another tank for a few months. I like the container he used, but I could get some little clamps for a gladware container or something like that. Since you're using a 1...

    dwarf Gouramis

When I got my gouramis I probably spent $100 on fake plants so that they could hide from eachother when they fought, for about a week though they charged at each other constantly. Neither got hurt and they act all buddy-buddy now so I dont know why they fought. I would suggest making sure you...

    DIY cannister filter

Me too, ever since I read about sumps and all of that I haven't looked at plastic containers the same lol It just seems weird that no one else is doing this if its that easy, maybe for larger fish tanks finding the right container and pump can become a problem (like 100+ tanks). I'm glad I could...

    DIY cannister filter

I've never tried this, but here's an older article on making your own canister filter. It looks pretty cool, could you do this for bigger tanks too? http://www.petfrd.com/forum/articles.php?action=viewarticle&artid=87 I have a 20g that I want to make a planted tank so a DIY canister would...

need help with under gravel jets

Yeah, it makes sense and is somewhat devastating at the same time. I went to home depot today with my mom to help her pick out a weed eater and she suggest using smaller pipe so that it would have to work harder to get through it, it sounded good at the time but considering what you stated I'll...

    Chocolate guramis in my tank!!

I love the look of chocolate gouramis but i've read that they can be a bit of a challenge for beginners, I'm not sure why though. Don't worry about them not eating, my pearl gouramis were like that at first and now if they dont get enough flake food then they eat my corries pellet lol and...

need help with under gravel jets

got some help on another forum, a guy said it would work for water movement, but I'd still have to do some gravel syphoning. I guess thats better than nothing though

need help with under gravel jets

So I've been planing to order a Rio 2100 along with some sand for my malawi tank, but I found out my LFS was going out of business and selling things extra cheap. So, instead of getting a Rio I ended up getting a Maxi-Jet 900. It was the most powerful submersible pump they had so I thought...
