    Caribsea floramax and shrimp

My phstays steady at 7.6. I have crushed coral in my canister as it is below 6 out of the tap. We have well water here with a lot of pines around. Our well is only 40 feet down.

    Caribsea floramax and shrimp

It is the midnight black. The last little leaf on the front says may raise pH: may not be suitable for discus and some freshwater shrimp.

    Caribsea floramax and shrimp

I have a 30 gallon planted tank with caribsea floramax substrate. My pH stays around 7.6. I saw the warnings on the floramax bag that says it is not compatible with invertebrates. Does anyone here have success with amano or cherry shrimp with this substrate?

    Changed substrate and made improvements

I went from sand to caribsea plant substrate and also traded a PlayStation game for Christmas moss. I am trying to create a moss wall on the back of the tank. I created a few trees with driftwood, Christmas moss, Java moss and super glue. I'm hoping everything takes. I purchased endlers from...

New to the hobby 5 gallon non tech tank

Even with media from a cycled tank you have to establish the bio filter in a new tank. You will still have to go through the cycle. It will definitely shorten the time. From the comment above they are seeing a nitrite spike which means the tank has not cycled. It is smart to feed the BB with...

    PH problem

a good way to lower your PH is to use peat moss. Soak it in a bucket for a day or two so it doesn't turn your water a yellowish green color. Put it in a filter bag and drop it in the filter where the water flows over it. That will help drop it naturally and you do not have to worry about it for...

    Ammonia and nitrite

Keep an eye on it and be cautious of the nitrite spike. i would test the water and if the nitrite stays at .25 and the ammonia is at 0, I would do a 30% water change and add a bit of prime to it if you have it. I just recently went through a mini cycle seeding with ammonia and the nitrites and...

    Low Tech Tank

My tank just recently cycled on Friday, March 2nd, 2018. I previously had a tank with co2, dirt substrate etc. I got out of the hobby for a bit and then just now got back in. I have a few anubis, java ferns, guppy grass (hear that this will be a pin at some point) and have java moss coming to...

    2nd cycle

The crushed coral has definitely held the PH steady. I have a strange cycle going on. My ammonia stays around 2ppm and does not drop. I have 0 nitrites and 20ppm nitrates. Is this a normal thing?

    2nd cycle

It is finally starting to move a little. I tested today and the ammonia that I dosed is still at 4ppm, however, the Nitrates have come up to .25 ppm from 0 and the nitrates moved from 5pm to 20 ppm. The PH is 7.6 at the moment, but I think it is fairly inaccurate due to the amount of ammonia in...

That is good to hear. Maybe I'll check my nitrates tomorrow. Thanks for the input.

    2nd cycle

It did dry out for the most part. I had it sitting on the counter as I cleaned the aquarium and moved everything upstairs. I went ahead and dosed it with ammonia and also added a bag of crushed coral to the top tray in the filter. I also bumped the heat up to 85 degrees. Thanks for the input...

    Fish-safe Glue

Hot glue sticks are ethylene based and are not toxic to humans or fish. That would work for what your are trying to do. It would come apart over time, but you should get a good 5 years out of it.

    Does my aquarium need co2

You do not need co2 for those plants. In fact, there are very few that you will need it for. Up your lighting to about 12 hours a day and the plants will do well. Keep the anubias trimmed as they will block light to your Grasses as they grow. There is not a whole lot of need for fertilizer for...

    2nd cycle

I have a 29 gallon tank with a 700 Cascade filter. The tank was originally cycled 3 years ago and has been maintained since. I chose to go from tropical to cold water. I removed the fish and gave them to a friend. I threw everything else out except the Cascade 700 which I rinsed in cold water...

    Hello from Birmingham, AL

Hello all, I have 2 tanks I am working with. One is a 29 gallon planted tank tank that I used to have 2 danios, 5 tiger Barb's and 5 kuhli loaches in. I gave them to my friend and cleaned the tank out. I kept the filter which is a Cascade 700. I cleaned the media with cold water and I am...
