I've had it with guppy breeding

Laurali Marzuki <lauriezuki@gmail.com> 3:25 PM (2 hours ago) to Aquarium I don't really recall timewise how long it took, but if they are male they should start to color up after a couple of months, as they get to full size. Some color up faster than others. (Wish we had known you wanted...

I've had it with guppy breeding

Yes they do fine without the 'girls'. Of course they chase each other trying to mate...futile. LOL. In the same 40 gal. tank we have an albino cory, a false julii cory cat (who just mated. We have eggs !), three black skirt tetras and about 6 small otocinclus cats.(They hide and we don't see...

I've had it with guppy breeding

We went the guppy route about 3 years ago...Had so many fry that our 40 gal, 30 gal, and 20 gal were overpopulated. We started giving them away. Eventually I separated the males and females to separate tanks. Finally they started to die off, one or two at a time. No evident sickness. We figured...

    catfish breeding

We have a female albino cory catfish, and a male false cory catfish. The female is laying eggs on the glass. Can these two varieties breed successfully, or will the eggs just not be fertile ?

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Took most of last evening to change water, clean filters and scrape glass in the 30 gal. Looks gorgeous this morning. But then, so do the other 2 tanks which haven't been attended to for a week. The water is staying crystal clear, even with the massive overstocking we are enduring. If anyone...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

My husband said "she makes ME tired" !We only have 3 tanks, 40,30,20 and I hate to see the weekend come because of the pwc's and filter cleanups. Our guppies are doing TOO well. We may lose one every couple weeks, but the females, which have been separated from the males for a couple months...

    Treating for Ick

This may be a stupid question, BUT....are cory catfish considered 'scaleless' fish ? The ick medication says certain 'scaleless' fish may be unable to tolerate a full dose of meds. And to use half dose. I don't want to kill off our cory cats. Help ?

    Treating for Ick

A few of our guppies have Ick. We treated with API Super Ick Cure, and raised the water temperature to 82. One cycle of the Cure. 3 days worth. Most of the spots have disappeared, but a couple of the fish still have a spot or two. I am wondering if it is safe to keep dosing with the meds for...

    Discouraged.

Earhtmother, The ottos are new, which is why I mentioned them. There are other fish in the 38 gal tank too. 4 black skirt tetras, 2 danios, one sunrise tetra, and 2 albino corys. And lots and lots of guppies. plus the big plecostomus (named Pete) (If you'd like some guppies, we have plenty to donate.)

    Discouraged.

We have a 38 gal bowfront with two hob filters (Aquaclear110, TetraWhisper20) 20 gal with two hob filters (PenguinBiowheel200, Aquatech5-15) 29 gal with two hob filters (Aquaclear110, PenguinBioWheel200) gravel base in all. (There is a mix of live plants (few) and plastic plants in all...

    Discouraged.

Earthmother, Thank you for your response. AND for clearing up my confusion on the rinsing of the filters. I think you are right about the constant re-cycling. That's exactly what it looks like to us. We just couldn't figure out WHY . The back wall was left cruddy to feed the plecostamus...

    Discouraged.

It seems we can't keep the water clear in our 3 tanks. All the maintenance we do to them, partial water changes, cleaning the glass (but leaving the back walls cruddy for the bacteria content) , skimming the gravel, etc. and the water continues to get cloudy. **When cleaning the filters some say...

Am i correct in assuming that you must add the conditioners ('prime' etc.) every time you add water or do partial water changes ?

Fresh water tank? I like the small green plants rooted in the tank with shrimp. Can you give me the name of those plants ? Please ?

    cloudy water

We cleaned it, (of COURSE !) ....:confused::fish1: We have so many guppies (over 100) in a 30 gallon tank. We took all the gravel out so we could clean it easier. It's now bare bottom. We pulled the fish out with about 10 gallons of their water. And used that same water when we...

    Bare bottom tank

We just took the gravel out of one of our tanks. (We are seriously overstocked, but don't know what to do with all the extra guppies.) The bare bottom reflects the undersides of the fish, and we enjoy that. We did weight down the plastic plants and put them in. Doesn't look 'natural', but until...

    cloudy water

I think we lost our cycle. Our 28 gallon was getting hazy, so we did a pwc. --about 1/3 volume. I added bacteria starter, API stress coat, stress zyme, and Tetra EasyBalance. Next morning the water was so hazy that we can barely see the back wallpaper. Any ideas ? or explanations ? or REMEDIES...

    Will fish regenerate there fins.

I'd like to know too. Our betta had his tail and fins 'nibbled' by some other fish. He still gets around just fine, but his tail and one side fin are shorter than they were originally.

    Bacteria question

I don't understand how that could be leftover food, fish poop, or decaying plants when it grows on the filter output DISCHARGE shelf, which is NOT underwater. The water coming out of the filter should not have any of that stuff in it. It certainly does not look healthy, tho. Could it just be a...

    Bacteria question

I understand the premise behind the 'good bacteria' keeping the water clear, but I don't know what 'bacteria' look like. I just assumed (and yes I know what happens when a person 'assumes' ! LOL) it was mostly invisible. My question is about the 'brown gunk' that accumulates on the filter...

    Albino Cory Eggs

Does anyone know how long Albino Cory eggs take to harden enough to get off the glass ? We have 'mama' laying eggs. The guppies were after them so I made some protectors from netting and would like to know how long it will be before I can scrape them off the glass without having them all...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

The rest of the eggs could have already been eaten by the other occupants in your community tank. Or the 'parents' COULD still be in the process of laying more eggs. We had some eggs on the front of our tank, and got them off immediately after they were deposited. (We just happened to be...

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

We have NEW baby albino cory cats. The eggs were only 3 days old, and started to develop tails. There are only about 5 that are active now, and many eggs had fungus growth on them. But as new fishkeepers, we are tickled. The guppies are reproducing like crazy, and we pulled the adult females and...
