    Sponge filter?

I would say that it depends on your first filter and your stocking levels. Why do you need/want a second filter on a 29? Personally, I love sponge filters, I keep one in all my tanks, even my display tank. There is a lot of space in your tank if you focus away from the bottom. I have a 6x6...

    Plant I.D.

There are a couple of different species, you would need to figure which one you have. Coastal/marsh species would be fine with brackish water.

    What is this cory cat?

Just following up finally with a picture. First time I've seen him in a week or so. Not sure why it's upside down...

    Rare rainbowfish owners?

I have breeding groups of C. bleheri (4.9) & M. boesemani (12.8). The boesemani are active morning breeders and the bleheri are late afternoon/evening breeders. They're all 3-6 years old, and awesome to watch.

    What is this cory cat?

Thank you to everyone who has weighed in so far, and thank you for pointing me in right direction. The next time I see the little guy in my tank, I'll snap a photo.

    What is this cory cat?

Hello Everyone, Quick question: what type of cory cat is on the TFH Publications Catfishes eBook, link HERE? I ask because I have one, and only one, who has happily (if lonely) lived in my tank for the past 5 years. I would love to get a small group to keep mine company. Thanks, AtC

    Crypt...dying leaves

It looks very similar to the C. 'willisii that I have growing emersed. No way to be sure unless you grow it (or a runner) emersed and get it to flower.

    Swap: WTT My Crypts for...

I have several types of crypts that I would like to offer for trade. I am looking for dwarf sag, micro sword, or something similar that won't melt in Excel. My crypts include: wendtii green wendtii red moehlmannii beckettii crispatula var. 'balansae' affinis parva 'willisii undulata If you...

    Aquarium plant trouble

I would assume that the lights you are referring to are the ones that come standard with a kit tank. If so, that is probably the first major problem for your plants. Those lights are meant to provide enough light to see the fish in the tank, but not nearly enough to grow any plants, even the...

    Paint a black background?

An alternative to painting (in case you may decide you want blue later) is to get some fabric and attach it to the tank using adhesive hook & latch (i.e. velcro). I have been using this on my 75 gallon for the last few years, and enjoy the ability to quickly & cheaply change the background...

    wet dry filter

Sorry to hijack, but would a wet/dry (with it's high nitrates issue) be suitable for a low tech planted tank? Gas exchange would be an issue with CO2 injection, but if that's not planned, could it be beneficial?

Java Fern for trade or RAOK :)

I am going to remove the majority of the java fern growth from my tank. If you would like some, I will consider trade ideas, or you can pay one-way shipping of $6 via PayPal. If you are interested in a trade, please PM me with what you have.

Haven't been around lately, here are my tanks now!

The tanks look great! Is the color in the photos accurate? If so, I may look into some 50/50 bulbs myself!

What media is in your canister?

For my 75g heavily planted tank I have a Eheim 2126 with Fluval Pre Filter Media in the bottom compartment and Eheim Ehfimech in the second compartment. Everything else is factory provided except the polyfiber filter floss that is added above the Ehimech. I change out the floss everytime...

    Containing runners

Hi All, I am searching for a long-term "container type" device to contain some of my plants that put out long (and inconvenient) runners. So far, the best idea I have is to use Pyrex type glass. Solution to be used with big plants that have big root structures and needs to be inert. Footprint...

    Surprise BN fry

Just a quick update with new photos :). A fry sitting on a leaf. Sorry for the size, but they lined up so nicely. Profile shot of the proud dad. Size comparison of fry and dad. Dad with a 13 month old male, getting ready to chase him off!

    Surprise BN fry

I noticied some nesting behavior by my male on Saturday, when I decided that it was time to re-scape. I figured I could wait until Sunday when normal maintenance occurs. As I start to drain the tank, I see the first little BN fry cruising along the front of the glass. Not too long after I see a...

    Panda fry

The first time I paid any attention to my tank since before we left on our trip, I see three of these little guys. Totally didn't expect it. I mean I hadn't changed the water in 3 weeks or so. The last time I did, was right before the first good rain in a while. Perhaps that helped trigger a...
