    Mystery snail not eating?

At least for now, I wouldn’t worry too much about the loss of appetite. A single mystery snail won’t eat too much in the first place and it’s possible that it just found an alternate food source such as algae growing in the tank. For now, I would continue to monitor its behavior and feed it as...

I need help identifying hitch hiker

It’s hard to tell from the photo, but this looks a lot like a pond snail. I’ve dealt with these a lot in my own aquariums and know from experience that these are a headache today deal with. Good idea to remove the plant from the aquarium. I hope that not too many made their way into your tank so...

Red claw and fiddler grands together

Sorry to hear that you lost 3 of the crabs. At least this will solve the aggression issues. Some things to keep in mind: - Fiddler crabs will get lonely if it’s just them in an aquarium. I highly recommend ordering another crab, ideally as soon as possible, so that you will have at least a...

    Algae help

This is a problem I’ve deal with a lot with as a fishkeeper. I’ve tried a wide variety of solutions and I’ll share a few that have worked best. - Limit the amount of light that the tank receives each day. Aim for about 10-12 hours each day, but definitely no more. A timer for your light really...

    Show Off Your Tank!!

Hi everyone! I’m currently in the process of creating a website that uses data from thousands of fish tanks to help new (and experienced) hobbyists build their tanks with ease. However, to do this, I need to take notes on thousands of tanks, and I couldn’t think of a better place to find tanks...

    800+ gallon aquarium

I have to agree with you that goldfish are rather overrated when compared to other stunning species in the hobby. I have a few ideas for stocking but I would recommend that you find some fish that you like and doing your homework on the fish you would like to keep. With that in mind, here are...

    Stressed Fish

I’d start with making sure that you are maintaining your fish and aquarium properly. First of all, don’t overfeed your fish; it’s common for aquarists to feed their fish too much which leads to health problems. Keep in mind that a fish’s stomach is only as big as it’s eye, so a tiny pinch of...

    8/9 month old platys

If you don’t want to deal with babies, don’t worry about letting them breed. Platys typically eat their own babies, and if they somehow manage to grow up, you can trade them into your local fish store for store credit.

    New Tank Setup

Hi there, The tank already looks amazing; nice job setting it up. For a centerpiece fish, I personally prefer a pair of German blue rams. However, if you plan to add these, know that they aren’t the easiest fish to keep alive and add them at least a few months after the tank is fully cycled. I...

    55 Gallon Stocking

Just thought that I’d say that I have completely finished the tank now and here is what is inside: A pair of female platies A pair of German blue rams A pair of honey gouramis A pair of reticulated loaches A school of 11 cardinal tetras I do a 30-40% water change every other week and have...

    Pearl Gourami

I don’t know if this will solve your Gourami problem, but you definitely have do more frequent or larger water changes. The white spots could be ich. It can be treated with commercial medications. Good Luck!

    55 Gallon Stocking

How about a 50% water change every other week? My local pet store sells females

    55 Gallon Stocking

Hi All, I am in the process of starting my 55 gallon up. My filter is a Marineland Emperor 400 and I do a 33% water change every other week. Right now I have 2 female platies, 6 long-fin zebra danios, and 5 cardinal tetras in the tank. Here is my plan for the final tank: 2 platies 6 Long-fin...

    Been lurking for a while

I think if you keep up on your water changes you should be ok to add one more angle, but that would have to be the max. You can just add one female angel and they will get along just fine. Good Luck!

A few questions from a novice

I would recommend getting something besides bottom feeders. A cloud of cardinal tetras are always a great fish. Good Luck

    Cloudy at every water change?

Slightly cloudy water after a change is completely normal if you gravel vac. You just are stirring up any fish waste and other matter in the gravel. Then, the matter sinks back down into the gravel. If you aren’t gravel vacuuming during you water changes, then I don’t know what is happening...

Zebra Danios or Gouramis might be a fun tank mate!

    Barbs with tetras

6 schools is far too much for a 29 gallon. I would recommend either doing the barbs or the tetras. Good Luck!

I Don`t Know What to do Anymore

Well there is you problem right there. Water changes need to be done AT LEAST every two weeks. I would recommend doing a 30% water change every week until your fish recover. Good Luck!

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Just added six zebra danios to my 55 gallon. A snail hitched a ride and somehow got in as well

    Plant questions

You should plant the vals in gravel, but I had amazing luck with them without fertilizer

    Been lurking for a while

I would recommend adding another angelfish. It is never good for a fish to be alone. Adding another angel will increase your current one’s lifetime, help it color up, and give it a personality. Good Luck!

    shrimp with fish

If you are looking for a good shrimp alternative, you could add a Dwarf Mexican red lobster. It is actually a freshwater crayfish, but it stays pretty small - about an inch or two. They will be able to fend most fish off, as long as you give them somewhere to hide while they molt.
