I have a 10gal dwarf puffer tank with 3 puffers and 1 oto. I have a GE plant & aquarium bulb (so 1.5 WPG) keep amazon sword, java fern, hornwort, anacharis, melon sword, moneywort, crypt wendtii, rotala indica in it. I know banana plants will do ok in low light.

I had a male betta in a 20 gal alone and when I added two fire honey gouramis, the betta went nuts and tried biting through the plastic bag. I had to put him in a different tank. But from what I've read its hit or miss with gouramis and bettas since they are related.

what you don't want is for the tank to become dependent on the bacteria in that second filter, which is going to consume part of the ammonia in the tank that the original filter used... so yeah, doing something to cause more ammonia to be produced, such as overfeeding, will work.

I have 3 Dwarf Puffers in a planted 10 gal with 1 Otocinclus. They don't notice the Oto but they do push each other around when I drop blood worms in. When its not feeding time they tend to swim around together. Its really cool watching them hunt for snails.

One of my 10 gals has 2 kuhli loaches, 6 zebra danios and 1 oto in it. The loaches are always sleeping under rocks, the oto occasionally sleeps on plant leaves, but I've never seen the zebras stop moving... even at night.
