    36G: What would YOU do?!

It's actually a tall, rather than long: 30x18x15 That also rules out the idea of a river conditions tank: I took my small river tank down not long ago and would have recreated it in this tank but it's too tall for the flow to work properly without a LOT of hassle and money (powerheads galore)...

    36G: What would YOU do?!

:) Thanks for the ideas! Hmm...not a fan of rams. Angels are a possibility...but I'd like to keep something I've not kept before, so it keeps the hobby new and interesting for me. I have a 58G moderately planted community, so would like to try something new. I have brackish puffers, but no...

    Mono's are brakish right?

Monos are, like many brackish fish, anadromous. They don't live in freshwater: they migrate there to spawn. Keeping them in freshwater is not appropriate in the long term. If you keep them, provide them with the correct environment which is brackish to saltwater (the older they are the higher...

    36G: What would YOU do?!

I'm stripping down my 36G which is currently my cichlid tank (Msobo Magunga). The fish are just not to my liking, which I've found really hard to reconcile. I keep all kinds of fish inc. puffers and the more unusual loaches, and really the cichlids are just not doing anything for me. I get no...

    Mono's are brakish right?

Yup, brackish! :) And they grow far bigger than most tanks can support, because not only do they grow around 10" in height but they need to be kept in a large group.

Hehehe! That's what family is for :D

    Few Photos

:) Thanks Rich! I took a couple more of my puffers tonight. They'll hand feed, and if it's krill which is long then I don't mind (no risk of losing a bit of finger in the process :P :D)

    Few Photos

:) Thanks! Glad the puffer is entertaining! Not as much as seeing them playing about though: the two of them are very naughty lol

One of my figure eight puffers: Deciding if he can really fit inside the barnacle: A BBG, looking decidedly grumpy (as usual!): One of four corydoras trilineatus (NOT julii!) I keep. This little one is now twice the size! Gnathonemus petersii, and a schistura mahnerti (nervously!)...

    Salt=more color?

There are two things aquarium salt can do in FW (as jdogg says, I won't mention marine salt since the OP was talking FW here): 1. Aids in osmoregulation for stressed fish (i.e. new arrivals). Not recommended for long-term use. 2. Aids in reducing the toxicity of nitrIte and nitrAte. This is...

please gimme your moral input here

I totally agree! Well said, especially the last part (I'm an ex-vegetarian but only because I ended up unhealthy and unwell on my veggie diet lol) :) Loaches love snails, and I regularly feed snails to my puffers too, it's just part of the way things work. I'm not sure I would ever keep a fish...

    Normal Cory Behaviour?

Sounds like it was just playing. I've had the "heads resting down on the gravel" thing before and it did worry me before I realised they're just weird little things that do stuff like that! Speaking of this... ...it's a good way to tell when you need to do a water change if, for some reason...

    Eco complete: some questions!

Hi! I have read: http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewtopic.php?t=55466 but have a few questions (mainly about the practicalities) of using eco complete as a substrate. I'm setting up a low-med tech planted tank (already run one using same methods) with EI fert dosing and Excel liquid organic...

    Msobo update!

Well, my cichlids have given me the most stressful time out of all my fish it seems! First of all they were supposed by saulosi and turned out to be metriaclima msobo magunga, then they decided they were going to breed for more readily and rapidly than even livebearers I've kept before. On top...

Ever find fish you thought were dead?

I'm always losing my elephantnose... And my cories are so busy doing their thing that it's difficult to do a headcount so they make me panic too. Kuhli loaches are the other big stress-causing culprit...!

What strange "schools" do you have in your tanks?

My black neons school with my white cloud mountain minnows, even though they look more similar to the Blue Emperor tetra I have in the tank. Always puzzled me that one.

    Anyone with green tiger barbs?

You could transfer him to a QT for a while, and then reintroduce him. As the newcomer he might calm down a bit... Best solution is what Rich suggests though: up the numbers. Barbs are like boys in corridors at school: a lot of shoving but nothing serious! lol

    Yay!

Cherry barbs are one of my fav barbs (along with gold barbs) :) Congratulations on the new occupants!

Ok Lisa, is this your idea of a joke?

lol! This thread has got to be one of the most hilarious I've ever read on any forum :D It's great! Joe, I heard apons were seasonal anyway and go dormant for a while: could be totally wrong. So, if you cut it back, chances are the beast will rise from the grave again some time later even if...
