    Cross state travel?

So I'm curious what everyone's thoughts on this are. I've been looking locally for some GBR's and had no luck finding any in the surrounding area. I'm headed back home to western washington for a few days and know that some of the LFS's there carry GBRs. So my question is, would it be a bad...

    Wanted: German Blue Ram

Unfortunately none of my lfs's have any German Blue Rams or are expecting any anytime soon. Anyone know of a good place to buy German Blue Rams Online?

    Cloudy Water?

I've experienced cloudy water before, but I'm kinda stuck on what this one is. Little back story, I have a 20g planted tank that has been setup and going for a few months now. A little over a week ago I cleaned out some hornwort and cleaned off some of the green spot algae that had built up...

    Fluval Spec 2G Nano

Its probably just some bio-film thats showing up on the surface, it's not a big deal (other than being unsightly). If you can get an airstone or some other surface disruption it will usually go away.

    Rain water???

I've never done it myself, but I've heard of people that have done so. They mentioned boiling it to sterilize it (especially if it's been sitting for a while) as unwanted bacteria can sometimes find its way into the water.

    Fluval Spec 2G Nano

with no specs its tough to say if it'd be enough light. Either way, more light can't hurt with HC. You thinking of adding CO2 at all? I've been considering getting a nano tank (spec/flora/etc) myself so I'm interested to see how this develops!

    Canister filters

I have a Rena XP1 on my 20g that I like a lot. Fairly easy to clean and have had it for a few years now.

    Diatoms?

only way is to wait and see if it goes away once you correct the water parameters.

    Diatoms?

The brown splotches on the plants could be diatoms or just old plant material. The white/blueish stuff looks like it might be some kind of fungus. check this out: Greater Washington Aquatic Plant Association » Algae in the Planted Aquarium and see if it matches up with anything you can see...

Don't know how to Cycle a Freshwater Tank

it depends, some of the test in the kit work for salt and fresh. It will say on the label what it works on.

    Diatoms/Algae?

Its still a fairly new tank, and yes it was pretty slimy. This is new pool filter sand (source of silica) so I was leaning towards diatoms with the increase in nitrates from cycling and the silica.

    Diatoms/Algae?

I removed a bunch of it this morning and it comes off the plants fairly easily. If it is some sort of fungus am I fubar'd or is there something I can do to remove it?

    Fluval Flora?

I believe you can buy another light that you can mount next to the one that comes with it to double up the wpg. I haven't heard anything bad about the unit itself. I've been looking into whether I should go for the flora or spec myself.

Don't know how to Cycle a Freshwater Tank

If you don't have a test kit for testing Ammonia, NitrItes and NitrAtes then I'd suggest getting one to keep tabs on how the cycle is doing. Basically, just setup the tank like any other. Substrate, plants (fake or otherwise), and fill it with tap water. You'll need a dechlorinator (I'd...

    Diatoms/Algae?

My tank is towards the end of it's cycle and I know it's not uncommon to see a diatom outbreak during such time. I've just never seen diatoms long and stringy before and thought I'd check to make sure it's not something else going on. I've been doing water changes and am going to start cutting...

    Source water is high ph

Yea, the swing confuses the **** out of me but I've tested it multiple times with multiple different test kits. I'll double check the KH and GH of the tap and tank water as i haven't tested them in a while. Both were roughly the same last time I checked (sitting around 10 degrees for KH and GH)...

    Source water is high ph

Source water has high ph So my tap water is a little funky and its causing me a bit of confusion. It's ph out of the tap ranges wildly. Some days it comes out at 7.2 others it comes out at 8.4. After collecting some of the 7.2 water in a bucket and throwing an air stone in it for a couple days...

    Eastern Washington GBR's?

Was wondering if there were any local breeders of german blue rams? I've heard that its best to find a local breeder over going with those shipped in from Asia (injected with hormones, low life expectancy).

    Nervous about getting a GBR?

PH? Hardness? generally they like acidic water, but as long as your water parameters are constant you shouldn't have much trouble.

    Breaking down aquarium, substrate trouble.

How small of a strainer would I want? It's about a year and a half old now, I'm debating if it's worth it as it might already be spent. Your thoughts? Thanks again.

    Breaking down aquarium, substrate trouble.

Hey all, I've got a bit of a pickle on my hands and I'm not sure how to proceed forward. I am in the middle of getting ready for a move and will be moving to a smaller place that has no real room for my 20 gal. I've given all the fish away to friends but am facing some trouble trying to figure...

    Getting Rid of Snails

So over the course of getting a lot of different plant I manged to get pretty much every type of snail out there. I have been trying the lettuce leaf trick for a couple days but they don't seem to be attracted to the leaves. Are there any other tricks out there to get remove them? I want to...
