    Xenia growth out of control

can i just use a razor to cut it off the rocks? will any harm come from just ripping it out basically? its seriously grown to 4 times the size i bought it in less than 2 months, and i think its blocking the light to other corals and it just looks crazy.

    Xenia ok to frag?

I have a huge xenia in my tank (ill have pictures up real soon!) , and its close to the back wall. Ive noticed a branch if it has almost completley seperated its self from the main part and is now on the glass. Any chance i can safely remove it and give it to one of my friends? or will taking it...

how to get rid of bubbles

My skimmer is making my water filled with tiny bubbles, does anyone know how to make them go away? i dont think they are bad, but ive had the skimmer running for 2 months now and its well past the "break in" period where it says the bubbles are normal. Anyone know what to do?

    Flame Hawk disapeared

I have 30 or so hermit crabs, 25 or so snails, a brittle star and an emerald crab in my 29 gal. I really dont want to have to tear apart all my large mound of live rock to find the dead flamehawk, but if i have to i will :( My tank is in a weird stand that doesnt let me see the sides, so i...

    Flame Hawk disapeared

I havent seen my Flame Hawk in 2 days, he is ususally the most vicious eater and i see him all over my tank. Do i have to try and find his body if he's dead because of the amonia spike that might result or will the clean up crew take care of him?

    protein skimmer micro bubbles

My aqua C remora skimmer has been in my tank for over 2 months now, and its still producing micro bubbles like crazy. It says in the manual that it is normal for the bubbles to be there for 2-3 weeks while the skimmer has its "break in" period. I dont think the bubbles are a problem for my...

    bubble tip reef safe?

the tanks been running for about 3 months. Im getting a 130 wat light for it. are there any corals that you would recommend that clowns like to host to? that way they wouldnt take over the whole tank. there was a torch coral at my LFS that looks like an anenome, would that do?

    bubble tip reef safe?

I wanted to pick up a bubble tip anemone for my clowns to host to (hopefully...) but i read up on them, and it says they can sting corals. does this mean they cant be kept with corals at all? or that they should be kept away from them? but they also can move, so are should i worry about that...

    Hurt wrasse, help!

I have a 29 gal tank that has an O. Clown, a flame hawk, and a sixline wrasse. My hawk picks on the wrasse everyonce and a while, but now i am starting to see the physical damage on one side of the wrasse. It has pink spots on the side that look like tiny bits of flesh were bitten. hes still...

    Easy coral?

well i was looking at these compact fluorescent lights that i can get either in a single 96 watt (making it about 3.3 wpg) or the dual 96 watt (making it 6.6 wpg). I would rather get the single because its half as expensive, but i dont want to shoot myself later down the line for not getting...

    Easy coral?

    flame hawk fish feeding question

My tank is finally in full swing (i'll have pictures up soon hopefully) and I just bought a flame hawk. He isnt eating the pellets that my LFS swears he loved. After about 3 days he still just watches them fall to the sand for the hermits and snails to eat. I got him some freeze dried shrimp...

    LFS giving bad advice???

I didnt add a shrimp at first. There were 3 or 4 small snails that i didnt get from my freshwater, that died. then a bumblebee snail and a hermit crab that were hitchhikers from my LR lived in the tank for a week and a half until i gave them to my friend. theres bristle worms, a small aptaisia...

    LFS giving bad advice???

My tank has been cycling for almost a month now. i have 35 lbs of dry rock, 15 live, and 40 lbs of dry sand. I tested the water only once about a week and a half in and noticed some ammonia (dont remeber the exact reading). I took a sample today to my LFS and this lady said that since i had...

    Thinking about a SW tank

Be prepared to spend more money than you expected at start up. Ive heard the bigger then tank, the more room you have for error. Im starting with a 29, and some have told me thats kinda small too. Study this forum, use it for every question you have and start bugging the crap out of your LFS...

    maintainance of sw vs fw

Its definatly more expensive at first. I spent maybe $200 setting up a really nice freshwater tank from scratch. Ive spent probably that much just converting that tank to SW (livestock not included!) water changes are harder, you have to consider salinity as well as other water perameters, BUT...

    pink Grouper or panther grouper.

Ive heard almost 2 feet long. www.liveaqauria.com says you need a minimum tank size of 300 gal! Also it says that they eat just about anything they can swallow. Besides all that, IMO they are the coolest looking SW fish out there...

    crazy brown worm attack

ok so maybe they arent attacking. but i turned on the light late tonight and saw about 7 or 8 of these bristly brown worms about an inch long. I couldnt get a good picture because my camera wouldnt focus on them. They are brown with white heads (or tails maybe?) My tanks been cycling for a...

BEWARE of killer hermit crabs! Read before you buy...

Ive heard from my LFS that basically any crabs with hair are going to be carnivorous, but that sounds freaking crazy. i would have thrown it out my window or something.
