    Fishless in Cincinnati...

Hi all, haven't been around much since asking for advice on moving and water changes and heater issues a couple of years ago. My poor clowns have all passed on now (the last one just last month). It's surprising to me that I miss them as much as I do. I did have them since at least early...

    Water change question

I've been using that 50 gallon can for something like 15-16 years now and at the old house, I didn't use heaters so the temp of the tank and the water in the can would be very much the same after sitting at least overnight. In this house in the basement, I just have to wheel it over to the...

    Water change question

LOL It's a 55 gallon tank, and the can is on wheels, so it's not exactly like I'm dragging it around. That said, I have 10, 20 and 30 gallons marked on it so I know how much I've got in there at any given time. I don't fill it more than 30 gal. Most of the time, it's ready in case I need to...

    Water change question

I use a 50-55 gallon garbage can to 'season' water for water changes. In the past, I've had to either roll the can out to the kitchen and use the sprayer attachment to fill it and then roll it back into the room the tank is in, or fill it from the sink in a gallon pitcher, gallon by gallon...

Correct water temp and heater wattage question

That's another good point! I may just go with 2-150 watt heaters then. That would bring me closer to the proper wattage for a 55 gal. (according to the chart fishwonder posted). I do like the idea of it staying on longer. I never liked seeing them flick on and off quickly. Thanks! :)

Correct water temp and heater wattage question

Thanks for all the advice! I think I'll go with 2 - 200 watt heaters. There is some heat in the basement (as there is some A/C during the summer). Good reminder that having 2 heaters will help in case one fails. :)

Correct water temp and heater wattage question

I have a 55 gallon tank that I have placed in the basement. Before in the old house, the temp never really fluctuated much and haven't used any heaters for years. But being in the basement, I'm sure I need heaters and wondering, since I don't really know how cold it may get in the basement in...

    Moving - need advice please

The flooring in the new house is vinyl (the waterproof, pet proof type). Is there anything I need in order to set up on this type of flooring? It's a 55 gallon tank with a finished wood cabinet/stand. Also, any advice on the actual move? Such as how many gallons of old tank water should I...

    Hello!

Greetings all! I've been keeping fish for over 15 years now. You may guess by my name, that I have 3 clown loaches. They are about 6 " long and they are in a 55 gallon tank by themselves. I have over the years, kind of slacked off on the upkeep of the tank (after other fish died of old age...
