    Molly Fish Question

Yes, you can keep the lyretail in the group. It is no different from a typical molly, aside from the fin shape, so will require no different care.

What Did You do With Your Tank Today?

Fed everybody breakfast. Withheld the pleco's wafers because I'm noticing more algae than normal and think maybe he's becoming a spoiled, lazy boy who just wants to sit around and snack on wafers all day.

Hi I don't know what I got myself into

Mollies prefer to be in groups so I would not leave just one alone. You could add more females (if you have tank space) to give the males more to do besides harass the same few. Or perhaps remove a male to have the 4F to 1M ratio. These are live-bearers so they will breed breed breed, not much...

    fish paternity test...WHO'S THE DADDY?

Looks like a molly to me. Barbs cannot reproduce with mollies. The male molly isn't necessarily the father- as the females can hold sperm for months. So if you recently bought the fish- she could have been exposed to a different male.

    Re-Scaping tank

I always re-scape with my fish in- it's way too much of a hassle to take everybody out. Only problem I've ever had was picking something up and not realizing my pleco was attached to it- so just make sure you don't smoosh anybody.

    Weight of decor?

I don't know why I've been feeling paranoid about this lately (and I've never really researched/asked about it) but how much weight is safe to put in a 72G bowfront aquarium, as far as decor goes? I have some beautiful rocks that I want to put in there but for some reason I'm thinking it will be...

    Keeping Mollies

I have been keeping and breeding mollies for a couple years now and I have found that they will shoal together no matter the variety. I keep/have kept dalmation, black and gold dust- and they all shoal together (and breed ).

    Moving my aquarium

The insulated cooler is a good idea. Otherwise, I wouldn't see why you couldn't have your heater plugged into the vehicle outlet (although, most heaters I've seen take a substantial amount of time to heat up so not sure how that would work?). You can purchase small, portable aerators (I've seen...

    is my dalmation molly pregnant?

The pics are kind of hard to tell but they definitely swell up when they are preggers. I can always tell when my mamas are preggers because they get so round in the midsection. If she is in with males then I'm sure she will end up pregnant sooner or later... They are breeding machines!

    Newest addition- crayfishy

So we got 2 dwarf mexican crayfish this weekend. They are SO ADORABLE. We also gave our LFS a dozen molly juveniles that we raised so that was a bitter-sweet moment. We have about 20 molly fry from our last birth so it was time to lighten up the tank. Still waiting on some platy...

    Black Molly with white babies.

How long have you had the male/female? I'm wondering if the female was exposed to a different male and that's why you are seeing the white coloration? Or perhaps one of your mollies is of the dalmation type. I have several dalmations that are nearly all black and could be confused.

Giant hmpk betta - tank size?

For a single giant, I would say 10 gallon would be your minimum. I've heard some long-time betta owners swear that some bettas thrive in a more moderately sized area compared to an unnecessarily large space. Just keep in mind they do prefer a heavily planted tank- so that's why I would...

    Advice for betta sorority

I never recommend a betta sorority but some people can make it work. Like stated above, LOTS of good hides and make sure each queen has enough territory to claim and reign over so they leave each other alone. Keep a close eye on them (pretty much forever) to ensure nobody is getting beat up...

    Food Recommendations?

I used to feed tetra and when I switched over to Fluval brand food- my fish would spit it out. Took them awhile to get used to it. Picky little boogers liked the cheapo food better. The ultimate favorite food was the frozen turtle blocks I would feed when the turtle was in the community...

    Molly and platy breeding

According to everything I've ever heard/read/researched- this is not physically possible. The two fish are not capable of producing offspring. Are you sure both of your mollies are male? If you happen to have a male + female- then that explains the fry. Or- if you are unsure of the genders of...

Please help me my betta is acting weird.

Guppies could be fin nipping your betta OR he could be self-biting- this might be due to stress... Stress could be from sharing his territory with the guppies. Either way, sounds like you need to separate them.

    Ich first timer! help

I left the heat + salt in there for about 9 days. After 9 days I was confident it was gone- so lowered the temp back to normal and did a few water changes over the next couple of days to remove the salt. Everything has been fine since.

    Ich first timer! help

That was an interesting read on Ich. I recently had an outbreak & treated aggressively with salt & raised temp and it knocked it out. But according to the studies referenced in the read- it's just the salt that does the trick- no heat?

Too many fish! What to do about overstocking?

I second taking them to a LFS. I would say you need to act immediately if you are having deaths and severe water quality issues. I would be honest with the LFS and let them know your situation. And at this point, I wouldn't even worry about selling them- I would be giving them away for free to...

    RIP molly boy

I have over 30 fish in my tank and removing them all would be close to impossible.. Lol I may try to find a new one that has the cover guard lile autumnsky was saying.

    My 46 Gallon Tank

I kept a male betta in my community tank (with mollies, platies, tetras) and it did not work out. The betta would bully the platies and mollies. This is a 72G so there was plenty of room for him to establish territory and for everybody to keep their space- but he was a total jerk. I would not...

    Craters of sand!

It's probably the pleco. My BN LOVES to dig in the sand. He is always moving it around- digging craters, making piles, ect.

    Help! They have ich!

Salt your tank (1 tablespoon per 2 gallons) and raise the temperature to 80 degrees (gradually). Keep this way for a week to 10 days. You will need to do water changes to remove the salt once complete. This method worked for me. I think the cherry shrimp will be okay with the salt & temp from...

    RIP molly boy

I was doing my weekly water change last week and something terrible happened. My gold dust molly male kamikazied himself into the vacuum and died. I have accidently sucked up fish before, but they usually go half way up the vacuum (and swirl around ) and then I kink the tube and they...
