I guess I wasn't clear. I can't even get a reading on them (nitrites or nitrates) they are so low. The water is ok.

pH is 8.2, it's a bit lower than I like to see it, but not that bad. Ammonia is 0 Nitrites and Nitrates are trace. The water is fine. This one snail is easily twice the size of his tankmates. Could it simply be that he's ancient?

I've always been told: 1. "what your fish can eat in 3 or 4 minutes is enough" 2. "Slightly hungry fish are better than slightly overfed ones" We tried 1 cube that was WAY too much. We just tried 1/2 cube, and although it was far better, it was still too much food. There were a some pieces...

Should we be considering a PWC at this point? Or should we continue to just let it cycle and work itself out?

DreamerTheresa and I just got back from the new LFS... Well, going to this new fish store was a serious bust. Strike one was walking in and seeing dirty show tanks. Not filthy, just lots of algae on the tank walls, and hey, algae happens. However, the guy who was helping us seemed to not...

Tonight's test results. pH: 8.2 Ammonia: 0 Nitrites: .6 Nitrates: 0 Alkalinity: 3 By the way, the sand has started taking on a brown patch? I assume these are the diatoms we've been reading about? Here are a couple of pics of the "growth" (large files)...

Ok, I'll run the full load of tests tonight and will post results. Thanks again for all of your help, we're trying very hard to do this right the first time and not deal with dead fish. :)

In the long term I understand this, but do I need to test all of these on a daily basis just while doing the cycle?

Today's tests. (We only did these two, don't see a reason to waste supplies unless you guys think more data is needed): Ammonia: 0 Nitrites: .8 That's the start of a good cycle right? Once nitrites bottom out, we do a PWC, restest and can start adding some stock, correct?

Tonight's test results (No changes made to tank): pH: 8.2 Ammonia: .1 Nitrites: .8 Alkalinity: 3.5 mEq/L Nitrates: 0 Should we remove the bio-wheels now, or wait until the cycle completes?
