But between waterchanges the detritus still sits on top of the sand doesn't it? Gravel allows the detritus to fall into it where it isn't seen.

I fine sand is unsightly as the detritus sits on top. I would rather have gravel that I can vacuum on water changes to remove the detritus. :)

Yeah, I use J&L Aquatics for all my saltwater supplies and lots of livestock too, but they are missing a lot of freshwater supplies that I need and don't stock freshwater livestock.

I don't put any filter on my powerheads. I don't like how ugly they look in the tank. I just attach the little mesh guard/cage that comes with them so they don't suck up fish. I use Maxi-Jet powerheads mainly since they are small, and function well. :)
