I'll have to call the service guy out to give it a once over. I know it usually Regens around 1am and I usually do my water changes later afternoon or evening. I just figured that the initial test when I stopped at 18 drops was because it was softened water and it wouldn't read on the test.

I turned on the bypass and ran the cold water for a minute or two to flush it out. I tested the cold water and got Kh 12 drops Gh 10 drops I then turned on hot and cold until I got around 78 degrees and tested it again Kh 11 drops Gh 7 drops Will this work ok?

No, I waited for the cycle to finish(so i thought) and dosed 3ppm to make sure the cycle was working.

And that's what had me puzzled. 2 days of 0 ammonia and nitrite with high nitrate. Then dosed ammonia, nitrites rose a little, came down and now it's stuck.

Will the salt wreck havoc on the plants

I did have both zero with some nitrates. Then I dosed a little ammonia and the nitrite has never come back down. Well, since there is fish in there now, what options do I have??

Yeah, some do look dead right down to the substrate.

I did get some driftwood from an established tank and put it in. I have been doing with api quick start as well

So all the ones that look dead, when/if should I trim the dead off?
