    UV Light Question

Personally, I'd put it where it's the last thing the water passes on it's way out or the first thing before the biomedia. But I'm not an expert by any stretch. Hopefully this will bump your post so someone smarter than me will chime in

    Pea puffers not eating snails

Mystery solved. I added more plants from another tank a while ago. While observing the puffers I noticed something darting around in the plants. Its feeder a guppy. Specifically one of the females I'd thought I lost. Last time I saw her, she was very pregnant... she's not now. There's zero fry...

    Pea puffers not eating snails

I have 4 of them in a 30g planted tank. For the past year they've eaten snails no issues. Recently my snail tank crashed and I lost the whole stock in there (daughter was "helping" feed them w/o telling me). While I get that going again, I've been throwing in tiny mystery snails and whatever...

    Quarantine fish

I think continuing quarantine is best at this point. They don't sound healthy. Unfortunately I am inexperienced but hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime in.

    Tanks...

My stepson agreed to take his brother's fish while they moved out of state (spoiler, they didn't come back for the fish). There where 12+ common gold fish and 2 black moors in a filthy 29g. Thus began my journey of trying to save the lives of ich riddled fish with bacterial and fungal...

    Help with Royal pleco

I don't know about royal plecos, but my common doesn't really eat during the day. He really only comes out for food after lights out. Throw some wafers or zucchini in at night then walk away. Check in the morning to see if he ate anything. Fish won't starve themselves in the presence of food, so...

Algae in tetra tank! Please help?

If you have live plants, I recommend a light break in the middle of the day. In my tanks I have the time set to 5h of light in the morning, 4h off, and 6h on in the evening. The plants seem to thrive with this schedule and I have minimal algae issues. It's not perfect, 'cause I still have some...

    Green Spotted Puffer

You need the new tank as soon as possible. Only genetics will determine how quickly an individual fish grows. Some grow super fast, others slowly. That's for all species. As for tank size, that's determined by fish size, amount they poop, what they eat, how messy of an eater they are, how much...

    180g, my ideal vs reality

Well that sucks. I imagine there's no way to house more than 1 Oscar in that tank.

    180g, my ideal vs reality

I scored a huge tank. In my head I have a picture of what I want, but I understand some of these fish can't live with each other in reality. Here's what I want: Oscar (albino tiger preferred) Rainbow fish(just for their colors and look of schooling fish) Cardinal tetras (same reason as...

Looks like ammonia burns but can't be

OMG I didn't even put 2 and 2 together! I've noticed a change in the taste of our water but it's like this every spring. Fudge.

Looks like ammonia burns but can't be

Possibly. It's definitely worth looking into. Unfortunately both fish passed and another is losing their color, which is a different symptom from the other two. I have no clue what's wrong with my tank. My only hope is that the water changes get rid of whatever the problem is. My parameters...

Looks like ammonia burns but can't be

I'm wiling to accept I'm wrong, but I test before and after every water change, there's no ammonia in my tap water, and I change water frequently. It was only one fish so I moved him to the hospital tank, but last night I noticed it on the tail of another fish and moved them as well. The filter...

    Betta glass surfing

It's currently in the living-room while I get the basement set up for all my tanks (fish and land hermit crabs). My kids are healthy and active, so probably a lot of vibrations. I'll try some of your suggestions. Thx

    Betta glass surfing

I forgot to put water parameters. Ammonia: 0 Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 5 Kh: 3 Gh: 8 Ph: 7.6 Temp: 76F

    Betta glass surfing

Big Mad has surfed the glass since day one. I'm concerned this isn't healthy behavior. To try and lessen it I've put him in a larger aquarium (from 5 to 10g), added more plants, dither fish. Some ghost shrimp babies and snails hitchhiked on the plants despite quarantine. I've bought and made...

    Help identifying mysterious snails!

I am no expert, but to my untrained eye they look like ramshorn snails. Maybe? Hopefully someone with more knowledge will chime on.

My betta died! What did I do wrong?

Note to self, when making a divider make sure it's tall enough the fish can't jump over it. Big Mad killed the guppy. Woke up to him swimming around the guppys side of the tank and a finless, very dead guppy at the bottom. He then jumped over the divider as if to say "see, this is how I did...

My betta died! What did I do wrong?

Well apparently there was a glitch in the matrix or whatevs because another fish showed up today! So much for my store credit. Little irritated because if it had arrived 30m later it would have stayed in the box until after midnight when I got off work. Anyway, life. It's that thing that happens...

My betta died! What did I do wrong?

The parameters where from before and after, they didn't change at all. He refused to eat once I offered food and I clean up whatever the fish don't eat.

My betta died! What did I do wrong?

Thanks for the info. Right now I'm using Prime to treat water when filling or doing water changes. I'll def. keep all that information in mind when I get the new fish. I'm also going to work on getting my pH closer to neutral before I get the new one. I feel like pH differences might have...

My betta died! What did I do wrong?

I used the tank water to acclimate the fish, it's been cycling for a week +. I used filter floss from my established tank to jump start the process and a guppy who needed a safe place away from the goldfish in an emergency situation. So basically a fish in cycle. The rep at the fish store...

My betta died! What did I do wrong?

I just received this betta yesterday and he died today while I was at work. Water parameters are zero for ammonia and nitrite, 5ppm nitrate, ph 7.2, temp 78F. His tank is cycled 5.5g with lots of plants to hide in or rest on. I did the drip method to acclimate him. He seemed healthy at first...

Too many fish! What to do about overstocking?

I'm not familiar with the species, but what's the tank's temperate? Do you heat it? If you use a heater, would reducing the temp slow reproduction? Wish I could be actually helpful, but maybe this bump will get someone with more knowledge to see it.

    Help an unprepared person

Do common plecos eat off driftwood a lot? That's Perry's favorite hobby. He likes that more than the pleco wafers and he won't touch the bottom feeder pellets I got him at all. Aside from the veggies I give him I'm afraid he's not getting enough nutrients, especially protein.
