    40 Gallon tank stocking advice

I agree with rlederer. My experience with rainbows is more are better. I would do 6 rainbows and the cory's. Leave the rest out. You'll still have a very colorful tank when rainbows mature.

    40 Gallon tank stocking advice

Acaras are chiclids, so you could do some colorful dwarf chiclids. Though you'd have to research which will get along. My concern with your list is not just size, but most the fish on it are semi aggressive. You might not have problems early on, but they could develop as fish mature. You would...

    40 Gallon tank stocking advice

You would be very overstocked with all that. Which one of those fish do you really want? If your just starting out, I'd pick one or two schooling fish and keep it simple.

    Boesemani Rainbow Problem

I really wanted these fish. They are not working out. I have bought 5 total, all 5 have died. One is unaccounted for and assumed among the dead. I bought 2 first, than 3. The only things I have noticed is they all seem stressed, two have had trouble swimming in the flow, and one was skimming...

    freshly stocked tank

My 40g long is fully cycled, with 0 ammonia, Nitrites, about 10ppm nitrates, pH about 7. I just stocked it yesterday with 3 golden zebra loach, 4 australian rainbowfish, and 2 boesemani rainbowfish. I know I'm close if not a bit overstocked once everyone matures. But it's not too bad right? My...

    I'm a softie

I have a 40g long and he's only an inch or so right now. Even if I stocked my other fish as planned he'd still have some growing room. Maybe if I kept him til he outgrew being bait lfs would take him back as a pond koi? I just don't want him to be another fishes dinner.

    I'm a softie

I need advice. I have one feeder goldfish who survived my fish-in cycling. Pet store said they'll take him back, but they'll likely just resell him as a feeder fish. I kinda feel responsible for him and don't want to give him back. Problem is this is a planted tank and I plan to have Boesemani...

    New fish die instantly.

I see you have opaline gourami. What is other fish? If nitrites or ammonia are high, you'll have your answer. If they are very high, I would vacuum gravel and do a big 75% or more water change. Always use water conditioner. Feed lightly, every other day and keep checking water parameters. If...

    Cycle struggles

UPDATE After vacuuming substrate, another 50%water change, increasing water temp 2degrees, and getting pH above 7, I am finally cycled. Ammonia 0, Nitrites 0, nitrates 20ppm. pH 7 Happy fish, happy fish momma. Thanks Everyone. Hope this thread helps someone else having struggles.

    Cycle struggles

New insight I've done some more digging into what could be going on and I think the pH may be affecting the cycling. I'm at under 7ph probably 6-6.5. My tap isn't that low, so I think the few driftwood pieces with moss I have are doing it. I'm still having high nitrites and nitrates, so I'm...

    Cycle struggles

5-10+ ppm nitrites. Fishwonder, are you also of the opinion that Seachem and other branded products don't work to help cycle aquariums?

    Cycle struggles

So I read the link. I guess I should mention I'm not unfamiliar to the nitrogen cycle, and have had several tanks. I just never had one behave like this. Also article says NOT to do large water changes to solve high nitrites, which is totally against everything I've known. It also says that...

    Cycle struggles

Backstory: 29g, sand substrate, moderately planted. Started cycling with seachem stability. One week fishless. 2nd week with 5 danios. 3rd week added 2 opaline gourami and 6 ghost shrimp. Up until I added the gourami my water parameters were looking good. I had no nitrates and very low...

    My 46 Gallon Tank

I wonder if bettas are really cichlids in disguise lol They seem to be just as problematic. Guess that's why I've only had them twice.

    Rainbow tank

Planning a 40 gallon planted tank with either australian rainbow or boesemani rainbowfish. I've read they prefer a slightly harder and higher pH than I have (soft and neutral). Should I add crushed coral in my filter or I thought of adding some holey rock? How do I know much to use? Or hate to...

    My 46 Gallon Tank

In my experience, male bettas are only aggressive towards males of their own and fish that may look like them, ie. long flowing find. Guppies could get nipped, but if tank was well planted and not overstocked, it could work.

    Starting tank

On subject of cycling... Shouldn't I still be seeding tank with food or something to create ammonia, even though I'm using stability?

    Starting tank

Thanks! I'll try to post some pics, but what I have so far is nowhere near finished. I hope my vision and reality are going to be same. In my mind this is the best tank ever.... Yah waiting out cycling process is tough, but I'm planning another larger tank for hubby. That helps...

    Starting tank

I decided to buy a 29g marineland curve front for my boys. It's gonna be dinosaur themed and I have two decorations and a rad background coming. In the meantime my pool filter sand is looking awesome. Also got 4 pieces of spider wood which I plan to cover in Xmas moss. Anyway, I was just...

    Tank stocking ideas

Only problem is tank is smaller than I'd prefer to have more angels, and I'd either have to buy a few and see how they pair off or spend $$$ buying an established pair.

    Tank stocking ideas

I have a 30g I will be stocking, and I was thinking 1 angelfish 5 Cory's (emerald or sterbai maybe) 10 black tetras Some fancy guppies? Or instead of angel, maybe a gourami. But I like angels best and had kept a beautiful pair before. Thinking bamboo shrimp too, would they be large enough not...

    New to forum

Hi all, I've dabbled in fresh and saltwater, planted and fowler. Largest tank was 55g. Been out of the hobby for a few years, decided to have kids and they are a handful as is. Kids are getting old enough though to appreciate a tank so I decided to jump back in. Planning to restore a 30g...
