36" reef lighting / MH question

Thanks for the reply. Thought it might be a long shot but then again you can put a 25 watt household bulb in a fixture rated for a 100w bulb. I thought it might be like that. I sold that fixture quite some time ago because it lacked the capability to do what I needed. I don't really want to use...

36" reef lighting / MH question

A long time ago, when getting into the hobby, I bought a really sweet 48" fixture off ebay. When I got it, I found out the moon lights were on the same circuit the actinics were on so I sold it. That light had 2 MH pods, and they said you could put 150w bulbs or 250w bulbs in it. Fast forward...

combining 2 nano reefs into a 46g bowfront

both have been up for around 4 years - thanks for the note about the sand. I'm planning to put new sand in and then seed it with 2 cups from each tank. It's been awhile since I did anything other than a pwc though so I just needed a little confirmation before I started going all crazy.

combining 2 nano reefs into a 46g bowfront

oh I should probably add the LR for both tanks comes to around 85-100 lbs.

combining 2 nano reefs into a 46g bowfront

today I am going to combine both nano reefs into a 46g bowfront. Am I correct in thinking if I add all my exisiting LR to normal PH seawater of the proper temp that I will not need to cycle? I will basically be setting the bowfront up while leaving the other two tanks up, then moving the...

    Strange Anemone on LR

Thanks, it hasn't acted up or anything, but I have a few so they aren't afraid to spread, and I wanted to make sure I didn't have to kill them before they started popping up everywhere. thanks! I like it too, and spend a lot of time looking at it.

    Strange Anemone on LR

I found this anenome on my LR and it's been in the same place for months, so I think it's cool. It has an orange tubiferous body and colorless tentacles with pink tips (think frogspawn or torch coral) Here are some terrible pics: Whatever it is, it's a very slow grower.

    New 20gH Nano Reef

Oh, my bad. 3rd pic looks like a pocillopora, which is an SPS coral and will need high lighting. It will probably not make it in your tank, but to greaten the chance of it surviving, move it as far up on the rocks as possible.

    New 20gH Nano Reef

Coral in the third pic looks like Xenia.

    Building frag tank system

I have: -10 gallon nano in my office, been up for 2 years. 25-30lbs live rock, 20 lbs live sand. 1 penguin 550 ph, 1 maxi jet mini powerhead. HOB filter filled with LR rubble. Current 80w PC fixture. Visi-therm stealth heater. Tank has: 1 two head hammer 1 single head frogspawn 12-15 assorted...

    Building frag tank system

I have read so many articles over the years that recommend crushed coral or aragonite primarily because of their Ph buffering capability. Is all of this incorrect and faulty information?

    Building frag tank system

I thought that's why we all make sure to use aragonite substrate in our reef tanks? If not, why else do most reefers go to that expense?

    Building frag tank system

Well, basically I'm living the dream. One of my customers has a lot of cash - he's well off. He used to be in the saltwater fish importing game and he wants to get back into it. maybe sell enough online to recoup his costs and get some nice fish for his fish room while he's at it. He has no...

    Building frag tank system

Thanks for all the help. Plumbing the frag tank into my existing system is not really an option because the frag tanks will be moved into our retail space by the first of the year. Great article on frag tanks but it doesn't really answer my question. If I were to use something that looked like a...

Thinking of adding a Feather Duster, peppermint shrimp, and a Curly Q anemone

    1. I have an 80 watt fixture over my 10g office nano reef, which is twice what you're putting on a tank 4.6 times as large. You're going to need to upgrade your lighting severely, probably to around 6-7 wpg (275 -325w) to handle an anemone, and only if your tank's been set up for a while...

    Building frag tank system

OK, looking at setting up a frag tank to grow into an online business soon. Probably going to use one or two 55G to start, or maybe a 40 or 50g long. If I just have coral frags set on a substrate of crushed coral (with maybe an eggcrate shelf or two) - how much LR am I really going to need? With...

    my nano

you could put mushroom corals in there as long as it wasn't a ricordea. Maybe some yellow polyps. A shrimp is always cool in a 10 g but you're really going to have to trade those fish in. I have a 10g nano and there's a Banggai cardinal in it - he's the coolest fish I have and he's very friendly.

    Protein Skimmer help

I bought a SeaClone 100 venturi and stuck it on my 20 gal reef AFTER reading this thread and I have had foam for days. So I guess I'm on the "should be broken in by now" side.

Will a Grammistes (striped) Blenny have a conflict.....

.....with a neon goby in a 20 gallon reef with about 50 lbs of LR? I'm thinking probably OK but with them being the same general body shape, I'm a little unsure of goby/blenny relationships......I'd like to toss a tiny neon blue or catalina goby in the tank, just wanna make sure nobody gets...

    Another protein skimmer question

I have the SeaClone 100 venturi skimmer on a 20 gallon nano reef. It's been running for about 3 days, but I cannot have the bubbles going at all or my tank ends up coated in microbubbles. Today I was able to turn it on full blast for a few and make some skimmate, but it sure blanketed my tank...
