THANKS EVERYONE!!
And yes, I did get a GREAT deal...basically I'm going to be able to upgrade to a way better stand for free!!!
Finding these guys a proper home is a small price to pay.
I guess that leads me to a new question...
I've only had them a couple days...should I wait a bit before moving them again? Would it be better to let them relax a little while or move them ASAP?
I thought they looked like them too...but they don't have the scary teeth! :D
I have one LFS...I guess that's where I'm headed then. The whole reason I ended up w/ them was to save them so hopefully they will take them and re-home them to someone w/ the space. I can't really see upgrading to...
They where moving and needed it gone...the fish they where going to "get rid of".
DANG!!!!!! The only reason I took the fish was to save them...now I have an issue.
Suggestions?
Buying a HUGE tank for these guys isn't really an option for me. I didn't want to see them thrown into the...
So I recently ran across a GREAT deal on a 55 g. tank. In the beginning I just wanted the stand so I was going to buy the whole thing but when I went to get it, they offered the fish too. I was somewhat hesitant since I just wanted to swap out the stand and sell the "new" setup to a friend...
My CF 2x55 just stopped working. It is 3 or 4 years old.
Maybe the balast just went out?
Can you buy balasts at the big hardware stores?
Any help/advice would be appreciated.
I was going from about 1 wpg (w/ CF spiral bulbs so i'm sure less than 1 wpg) to 2 wpg so I was afraid of some kind of shock or something. I'll bump it up. Thanks.
I'll also take the dosing advice and be sure to update the thread.
Thanks!!
~Jim
I broke down my 20 and got my 55 back up and running. Just about everything came from my 20 and was just replanted. I planned on going back to my 55 and going all out but due to reasons I won't waist your time with...it's very low tech right now.
The plants I moved over are not in the...
I know the answer will be personal preference but how big should a driftwood piece be for a 55 gal? I still have the 20 in this thread so I still have that piece. The tank looks nothing like that now but from the "sart" picure you get the idea. I love it in the 20...I think it will be a...
Thanks for the advice
Couple things to discuss that you've brought to my attention.
Lights - for looks alone i didn't want the shop light. I guess a DIY hood will be in the works. I like the hood look anyway and deff want the "lawn" in the front. A PC and floresent mix will be fine...
I had 3 tanks going and went down to 1 (long story and not a happy one...dont' ask). It's a 20 gal that has just java moss and java fern...nothing that i'd really say is a "planted tank" since I treat it as a fish only and am donig fine.
I'm ready to jump back into the planted tank again and...
That really is terrible. Sorry! I'm have to agree w/ a few other posters...never feel ashamed. These people are fantastic and your admitting an error is only going to help someone else not make that mistake. We learn from our mistakes and so do the others we share them with.
I read the...
That's FANTASTIC news!!:D I'm going to be getting my 55 back up and going but this time invest in pressurized CO2, a good substrate, and really make a go at a show tank this time around. I planned on no fish until I get the EI down w/ the new set up. I also planned on placing some RCS in and...
I ordered a dozen. Now? It's hard to say...50ish +/-.
Here is my thread when I first got them.

One thing somesomeone mentioned is that the young don't do well w/ fast growing plants so I'd look...
I'm no RCS expert but I've had some for about a year now and they seem to be doing extremly well in a tank w/ fish. I have them housed w/ a few small tetras (forgot the name, cheap-all LFS seem to have them) and a few zebra danios. While i'm sure they pick of a few of the babys, my crew out...
To update this thread:
These little guys are awsome. They have required 0 extra care and since the tank is mostly java moss/fern there has been very little care needed at all.
I ordered a dozen...i will have many more shortly...I was just feeding them and there are 3 that are ready to...
I'm no expert but i have regular black mollies and they are always together. I have 3 in a community 55 and they are always hanging out. I don't know if they are considered "schooling" but I think they enjoy eachothers company.
Why just one?
They arrived! I was so scared they'd be dead since it is litteraly freezing here in central Illinois. I ordered them when the nights where warm but when i was told they are being shipped it turned freezing.
Tiny little things are so cute!
I read ferts where bad so i've weened the tank off them already. The corkscrew grass is the only plant that seems to not like the lack of ferts.
I can't buy a sponge filter at the moment. I bought a protictive cloth sleave for the HOB filter hoping that will do for now and will turn it as...
I have some fast growing plants in there...
anacharas and myrio filigree are fast
corskrew grass is slower but still has to be trimmed oftern.
I also have java fern and moss.
Should I remove the fast stem plants?
i've kind of thought they where a bit pricy but my gift to myself for working some OT at work is the shrimp. they are shipping monday and should be here tuesday. :D
i'm putting them in a 20g tall that is well planted and has drift wood. it is my most stable tank and one i can get all the...
I was looking for a cheap hideouts/caves for my 2 bumble bee gobies in my 10 gallon. I was just keeping an eye out...not specifically looking for them...then i was at the store and saw glass salt shakers.
I've put 2 'caves' in my 10 and the bumble bees have picked their homes in just a...
anyone have experience doing this? I know the fish would love it but how well does it work?
I saw this and it seems it would be little trouble since they would swim out on their own once mature.
If you have experience w/ anything like this i was wondering...
1. how much upkeep to them?
2...
