    Pom Pom Crab

I had a pic, but you couldn't really see him since he was backed into a corner. With a bowfront it's really hard to take good pics. He is seriously the coolest little creature I've seen...waving the anemones around warding off the hermit crabs. Very cool. They are so reclusive, though, I...

    Pom Pom Crab

I found a Pom Pom Crab in my tank today! :) I really want to keep this little guy alive so does anyone have experience with them? I STILL havent been able to catch the mantis shrimp in my tank...I really hope I can catch him before he makes lunch of the pom pom.

    Update on my cyano problem

The rocks made the biggest difference, I think. I also started to run purigen about a week before adding the rock. The guy I bought the rock from was telling me about the differences btwn the different kinds of rock and how he beleives carribean rock is the best. I added the carribean and it...

    Mantis!

So I've been hearing a strange noise at night and I've lost a couple of big hermits and even an emerald crab. Also, my 6-line was acting erratic, like he was dodging something the other day. I was dreading that it might be a mantis and today I saw him! He must be about 2 to 2 1/2 in! I don't...

    Update on my cyano problem

If you all remember I had a bad blue-green cyano problem a few weeks ago. After a lot of debate and thought I went with my gut and got some GREAT live rock. I added 15 lbs so I now have about 40 lbs in my 46 bow. I plan on adding a little more, maybe in the next couple of weeks if I can find...

Questions about 3 of my Corals

just a quick thought about#2. It looks like a flowerpot or goniapora. Typically, they don't live very long in tanks b/c they feed off of phytoplankton and that's hard to come by in tanks. So, they usually stop opening and will get brown jelly disease. I'm thinking that's what those spots are...

    Blue-Green Cyano

I dont know my alk but I assume that it's good since my ph remains pretty stable. I buy tropicmarin pro reef premixed from my LFS. I know it's lazy but w/ the pregnancy it made things easier on me. I was doing my pwc the same day I would buy my water. Since I started the weekly changed I...

    Blue-Green Cyano

Yeah, as I've been mulling this over they are just about due for a change. It's only been 5 months actually since I bought that fixture but I think I'll be picking some new bulbs up when I go get my water this weekend.

    Blue-Green Cyano

I'm using C-Balance, it's a 2 part product. Main ingedient is calcium chloride, but it has magnesium and strontium in there too along with some other trace minerals

    Blue-Green Cyano

um Lando, I think the issue was settled and I agreed that it was a misunderstanding. Thanks for the public scolding, though. This isn't an outburst, just me sticking up for myself. Hopefully, that's acceptable. I've been thinking about my lights as a possible cause. They are about 6 months...

    Blue-Green Cyano

My ph ranges from 7.8 to 8.0. I know it should be higher. From what I've read, problem algae is less likely in a tank w/ higher ph.

    Blue-Green Cyano

I guess it's just a misunderstanding.... I just wish the questions were asked directly in the beginning instead I was told I was giving erroneous info that wan't useful. Maybe I was, but from where I was coming from the specific numbers aren't necessary. My no3 and phosphates were 0 and I was...

    Blue-Green Cyano

Wow can't beleive you're a moderator... Why don't you ask questions directly? There are ways of being helpful w/o being condescending about it. You don't know me and you don't know what level of knowledge that I have about the hobby. You could've brought up the ph/alk suggestion in your...

    Blue-Green Cyano

I'm not arguing, I just didn't appreciate being talked down to - being told that I dont understand. For the sake of argument, though, nitrates are 0 phosphates are 0 From my understanding, the cyano feeds off of the nitrates and phosphates so they would read zero unless the nitrates or...

    Blue-Green Cyano

I DO understand, Hara. I'm not a newbie here! That's why it's frustrating! IMO, the specific numbers arent necessary b/c there is obviously a nitrate or phosphate problem-otherwise there would be no cyano. I had never heard that about GAC. It's helped me in the past with hair algae so I...

    Blue-Green Cyano

I know it's just a band-aid and all of the other issues that go along with it. I'm just so frustrated!! My last water change was Friday. I scrubbed the rocks(in the tank) and siphoned all that I could out. The next morning it was back almost better than before! My water is good...I use the...

    Blue-Green Cyano

All of my parameters are good - no doubt b/c the cyano's using everything up. Ill try the phosban and purigen...didn't think about that. I'm tempted to just buy the chemical remedy at this point, but I'm not sure how well it works for the blue-green stuff. And I have a starfish, and I can't...

    Blue-Green Cyano

I buy my water from a LFS. It's RO/DI. I even had their competition test it for me so I know it's good. That's what's so frustrating. I guess I'm doing everything I can. I've started my weekly changes 2 weeks ago and nothing. This Friday will be my 3rd. I've had probs with bad algae...

    Blue-Green Cyano

Has anyone dealt with this?? I can't seem to get it under control. When I do a water change it almost seems to make things worse. I know I need more rock and I will get some this week. I'm just afraid of adding more when I know there will be some die-off. Possibly making the problem worse...

    I added my live rock!

You're definitely right about the PWC. I had cc in my nano and never had any probs w/ nitrates. Good thing I like vacuuming the substrate :)

    I added my live rock!

You know, I asked what kind of rock I got today when I went back to the store and I can't remember what she told me. It was something I'd never heard of. I actually changed the rockscaping b/c I wanted something more natural looking - inspired by a trip to Cozumel, I guess. I want it to...

Hair algae in brand new tank?

Thanks for all of the advice everyone. I'm thinking it came in on my rock and when the nitrates bloomed it spread like wildfire. I went to my crappy LFS here in town tonight and got some emerald crabs. (I have to drive an hour to get to a good store so I'll be doing that Saturday) Whatever...

    mushroom coral question

It will attach itself somewhere; either the substrate or it will float around if it can get picked up by the current and settle on some rock. If I were you I'd put it somewhere I would want it to stay. They usually attach pretty quickly.

Hair algae in brand new tank?

I dont think that the biowheels are the problem since the tanks been set up for only 3 weeks. Right? Isn't it too soon for that? I was going to take the wheels out eventually and then get a skimmer. Maybe I'll do this now. It's worth a shot. I've had hair algae in my previous tank and it...
