Its just a plain old in tank glass overflow filled with bioballs with a trickle plate on top. 2 holes in the bottom. 1 to drain to the sump the other for the return pipe to come up through (which makes filter socks etc really awkward)

I dont know how much of this is tru but the Aqua medic Wave solution slowly ramps power to the PH not just on/off instantly and is supposed to be much better for the ph. I hope this is the case as it costs $400 compared to the Maxijet equivenlent of $100. But Aqua medic stuff is never cheap!

Its worth bearing in mind that many octo species have very short lifespans in the wild too. So aquarium experiences may be coloured by this.
