ok, so I finally added some fish to my moderately planted tank. My Oto's seem to be enjoying themselves....and I just added some Zebra Danios (a few more species to come)...my question lies in the feeding. I bought some high quality flake food and some frozen bloodworms. I feed twice a day...

go for it....be sure to post some pics when its done...and I think the hinge is a good idea, this way you dont have to remove the lid to feed the fish and do routine maintenance. just have half of the lid "liftable" and have the lights mounted on the second half.

Thats a good idea.....try it both ways. You could even wait till the actual light gets there before you mock it up, this way you can see how much light is dispersed both ways too. Anyway, good luck with that....drop a pic here when you decide...I'd like to see which way you decided and how it...

the only problem with the lid is that its gonna look like an oversized hat....like a kid with a pot on his head....at least the separation between the tank and the light wouldnt make the difference so obvious. The stand looks great, but in the pic its hard to see that its stained...thats why I...

You could even use raw wood to match the stand.... heres a pic of how this other dude did it....he sent me this pic from Brazil. The only thing is you have to make sure you secure it realllllly well to the wall.

did you consider hanging it??? That always looks super cool....and high tech too. You dont even have to do it from the ceiling...you could always put a shelf above it and hang it from there.....but again, I dont know your setup. Just throwing out some ideas at ya.

added some otos over the weekend. and was planning on the following fish: Zebra and Turquoise Danios Harlequin Rasboras Cherry Barbs Skunk Cories Cardinal Tetras And I have some Cherry Shrimp and another bunch of plants that should be arriving next week. Here is a pic from last night.

I actually thought about that.....so 2 days later I added some more plants: I also have some crypts on the way, vals, blyxa japonica, and some more anubias.....should be here sometime this week....

I've heard that about the cardinals....maybe I'll leave those guys for last. I was figuring one species per week. My favorite "Local"FS is actually about 45 minutes away so I can only go on Saturday's. Is one week enough for filter "catch up"???
