    New tank setup advice

Hi, I will be getting this up to keep fishes and corals. I figure eventually I will be adding in more corals, and I don't want to be limiting myself in that nature if I decide to go with a not-so-good light. I did look at the link in the stickies in regards to the DIY Sump, and doesn't seem...

They do have one that's 36"x18"x20" if i remembered correctly, and after chatting with the owner for a little...

    What is this???

Hi all, I saw this thing hiding between the rocks a few days ago, but I was only able to see the legs waving. Today I looked at the tank again, it came out! What is it?? Here's a pic (the piece in the middle): Is it a sea star? It has 5 legs in total, it can move quite fast by grabbing...

    Yellow tang's fin erosion

Thanks for the replies. I think I will start on fixing his diet, monitor the water quality, and also add one of 2 tiny cleaner shrimps to it. I picked up some dry seaweed sheets, cut them up in small pieces, stuck a piece between 2 of the rocks, however he doesn't seem to be interested at all...

    Yellow tang's fin erosion

Thanks for all the advice. At no way I am taking it as personal attack MACATUA, since these are all very useful advice. Hara, the tank has been setup for approximately 8 weeks so your guess is close enough. I actually did bring up to the attention of the LFS owner that I have a 20 gallon...

    Yellow tang's fin erosion

Heading out to get some dry seaweed now. I got it without knowing it needs WAY more space than what I am offering now. Hopefully he can bare with me until my next tank upgrade  Having that said, do you really think this problem was caused by insufficient nutrient? Or does it look...

    Yellow tang's fin erosion

Hi all, I am having this horrible problem with my yellow tang, and I hope that I am not too late to get on here to seek for solution. I got my yellow tang approximately a month ago, and for the first few days, I did realized some black ich on it. Without knowing much about these diseases back...

    New Clownfish not eating/moving!

The tank I have is just a tank from walmart, which came as a kit. The light is also the one that came with it. I don't plan on having any anemone anytime soon as they are pretty tough to take care of, at least from what i have heard.

    New Clownfish not eating/moving!

The way that the LFS owner taught me was: Week 1 Day 1 -Add in the sand -Add in water (with water conditioner) -Mix the salt in the tank to get to the right salt level -Add in the two filters I have -Let it run for around 2 week Week 3 Day 1 -rinse the materials in the filters with the tank...

    New Clownfish not eating/moving!

Hi, Money is not an issue, I will definitely add more LR to the tank soon. In terms of the clown, the store offered an exchange, however I said I wanted to try some dry flakes first. Guess what? It works! The clown gone crazy for the flakes and he's active again. I am going to try it...

Tried mixing with garlic, no luck. :( from my LFS, they told me they might be trying to pair up, is there any truth to that? I also got a test kit from them.

    New Clownfish not eating/moving!

I am going to start with frequent water change for now, will run to the store for the test kit tmr. Having that said, you do not suggest me try another type of food right? I am just under the impression that as long as the fish eat, at least they will survive (of course with acceptable...

    New Clownfish not eating/moving!

is there anything that you would recommend me to do rather than just keeping an eye on the ammonia levels and do water changes? I am actually kinda upset about how the LFS didn't educate me about all these, wasted 6 weeks of my time and didn't get things the right way. Worst of all, I do not...

    New Clownfish not eating/moving!

Thankssss! When I first setup the tank, I just added the sand on the bottom, add the water in, mix the salt to the right level in there. After it running for around 3 weeks or so, I have added in the live rock, which we were told that they have been cured already. That alone ran for another...

    New Clownfish not eating/moving!

Thanks all for the reply and the welcoming! kurt, you are correct. I am not testing my own water, but I will pick up my own testing kit tomorrow on my day off. What exactly are your water parameters? (Not just "OK" or "Good". How many ppm of ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates are in your water?)...

    New Clownfish not eating/moving!

Hi everyone, I just setup a new saltwater tank as per instruction form the fish store. We have tested the water and everything is great. It is a 20Gallon tank, with around 3 lbs of liverocks. After around 5 weeks of running the system, we were told that it's ready to buy the fishes. So we...
