First SW Tank! First post! First cry for help!

I'd recommend a FOWLR over a reef tank if this is your first SW tank. If nothing else, it'll be less of a headache and cheaper. And you could also go the FOWLR route for a year or two, and then convert things over to a reef setting. Also, welcome aboard AA! This is a really good website for...

Jawfish requires cover on a 90g?

No, it's not a full cover on mine. But I admit it is better to err on the side of caution and get an eggcrate top. One of those prevention things; I just like to live dangerously I guess...

Jawfish requires cover on a 90g?

I've had a pearly jaw before and I never saw him higher than 8 inches off the tank bottom. Is anyone else having a hard time finding pearly jaws? The LFS's around here sell them as fast as they get them; when they can even get them at all.

    ?hair algae?

Emerald crabs are scavengers, so they will eat about anything if they are hungry enough. I would think that so long as they had some greens to eat, they shouldn't bother your corals. Having said that, I've never kept emerald crabs with corals; so watch them closely if you try it.

    Hang on Refugium??

Good choice on going with a bigger tank; I think you'll be happier with that in the long run. I don't know if you could put enough LR rubble in the fuge to make a noticeable difference in filtration, but it won't hurt anything either. And pods should grow whether you have a UV or not.

    Anyone Heard of Marine SAT?

I dose my tank with Marine SAT as a preventive measure. You can dose it for an existing problem or dose it as a preventive. As far as I know, Marine SAT is a bacterial culture, not chemicals, that break down the hair/string algae. It does take 2 or 3 weeks to work after the first application...

    Hang on Refugium??

Macroalgae competes with nuisance microalgae for nutrients and provides scavenging herbivores with a good food supply. I like to think of pods as being the large base of the aquarium food chain. They provide a good food source for larger critters and perform a basic cleaning function. I've...

    Zoanth ID needed

I suppose I should have been a bit more specific. I was looking for a scientific name for that guy. Much thanks!

    Zoanth ID needed

Hello all, First off, I appologize about the blurry quality of the pic but it is the best I can do with the cheezy digital camera that I currently have. Alas, I digress...I was wondering if anyone could get me an ID for this guy...

    Caulerpa

Were you planning on adding caulerpa to the show tank? I've heard of a few people who didn't like to do that b/c of how easily caulerpa can spread. It's a personal preference thing. I personally like some macro in the tank other than just for food (must be from my FW roots).

looking for a pentax k1000 SLR camera

Congrats on the new camera! I hope it works out well for you. I love my k1000 as well. Manual really is the way to go in my opinion.

    Dumb Q??

Agree with Quarryshark on not drilling yourself. If you do indeed decide to do this, be very VERY careful or you'll crack the glass bigger than you know what. If it must be drilled, I'd advise about getting someone from a glass shop to do it for you or perhaps an auto body shop that fixes...

    Disappearing nassarius

Mine would come plowing up out of the sand bottom when I'd throw flakes in (I guess they like the smell of Aquarian); otherwise, I'd just see the "snorkels" sticking out of the sand.

    ICK OUTBREAK!!! HELP PLZ :(

There's not enough time for a proper cycle of a QT in your case, but that's where daily water tests and partial water changes are going to come in handy.

    macro ?

Are you refering to macro algae? I'm sure someone here can give you the nitty-gritty technical version of it, but I think of it as larger, multicellular plant life. Such as caulerpa, chaetomorpha, mermaid's hair, etc.
