Nope. Not acclimating them and never have done. Its funny cos they live for about 2 weeks and then croak.

ahh yes they were Astraea snails. The new crop of baby snails are of unknown origin!

He's maybe 1" in length, moves very fast when you shine a like light on him. Not sure how he got in but here are some pictures, the best I could take given that the light scares him. He has long tenticles on the front end and his body looked hairy/scaley ... is he dangerous? Thanks Atif

But this stuff is almost oily and stuck together. Can't really sypon it ... maybe I can peel it off the sandbed?

Great point on getting them to test their own water ! I'm using phytoplankton to feed my corals ... I'll scale this back. I want to keep my tank as is for a few months before I add new fish. I stirred up the algae guck on my sand so that the filters can do there thing. Thanks Steve.

I get the ro/di from the LFS so I don't about the SiO2 content. No new additions to the tank. Water specs are a ok! I do feed the soft coral on plankton every other day - maybe I need to reduce this to every 3-4 days? Atif

Ok - over the past week this small ptach of dark purple algae is spreading ... is it dangerous or should i leave it alone to burn out. i only have 2 fish (clown and damsel) and the bio load is small (skimmer seems to be taking care of that). i only use ro/di. thanks Atif

even if you use cured LR the tank will go thru some re-cycling if you add the LR afterwards. i did that on one someone's recommendation and it just prolongs the cycle time. if i had to do it again i would cycle with LR & LR all at the same time.

if you have not already ordered it - you may wanna go for cured LR. if your a first timer like me there is a lot to learn (non too difficult) but i agree with reefrunner it's a bunch of work and if your lifestyle allows you to cure then go for it. i tell ya, this forum is super helpful too!

i had the same problem (brown algae) with safeway distilled water. i added 25lbs LR from www.aquacon.com (excellent quality - but i had to go thru a mini cycle again) and switched to RO/DI from safeways. the bown alage burnt itself out and the skimmer took care of the rest. now the tank is...

seems to me that you hippo tang and clown are a bit nervous - hence not eating correctly! if you water is clean then is most likely the presence of the blue lobster. i agree with fishfreek, you may have to make a choice; friendly fish or blue lobster.

thanks devan ... he does move towards the overflow box at night -- but he seems to be a fish that moves about a bit. i think the tank is approx 35G's, it was custom built for the space.

ok guys - i have a clown (3 stripe kind) and have had him/her in my tank for 2 days now. we have noticed that it really does not sleep! just swims around checking out the hood. is this normal? how can you tell if it's a he or she? should i get it a friend (another clown)? btw we don't have...
