Could be a mantis shrimp...keep an eye on your inverts and smaller fish.

Strange acts of my clown fish

Although you may be correct, this has not been scientifically proven. To my knowledge, there are about 4 hypothesis as to how anemonefish avoid being stung by anemones. What you have mentioned is, however, probably the most accepted hypothesis. One this is for certain...the anemone does not...

    ? about having low nitrites

I could be wrong but I think Sango is confusing nitrites and nitrates. As Brenden mentioned nitrites in any concentration are toxic to fish. Nitrites prevent the fish's blood from carrying O2. Nitrates, however, are far less toxic; most fish are pretty tolerant of nitrates.

    question for brendan

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the advantage of using Loc-line compared to PVC or regular flex tubing?

    Cleaner shrimp opportunisitc killer?

Aznbob, my cleaner shrimp can sometimes be a pest as well. It regularly gobbles up hermit crabs that are in the process of changing shells. It is always interested in new additions but seems to leave them alone after a while. I know food is not an issue as the shrimp is not shy and comes to...

Micro bubble with Red Sea Prizm skimmer

Protein skimmers have a "break in" period. Some will produce a ton of microbubbles initially, but the bubbles should lessen with time. HTH

    Christmas Tree Coral/Madusa Coral

I believe those Christmas Tree Corals are non photosynthetic. You should probably target feed it a few times a week. FWIW, my LFS had one for months and it looked great...I don't even think they target fed it. HTH and Good Luck!

Merry Christmas! (tube worm pic )

I see Christmas Rocks all the time at my LFS. They do not look as nearly as nice as yours though. Most that I see, only have a few worms and the porites is always dying. I would love to acquire a piece like yours!

    Emerald Crab

Don't be ashamed. I have done the same thing countless times with my cleaner shrimp and sally lightfoot crab. :D

Why are my snails and hermits dieing?

Oyf709, you could be right. However, I believe even if the LFS tanks tested 0 for nitrates, a bump up to 10 or 15 would not be enough to totally erradicate every snail or hermit introduced. I'm especially having a hard time believing it would kill the hermits..those little guys are pretty...

Why are my snails and hermits dieing?

Although nitrate concentration between 10-15 ppm is not ideal, I would bet that this is not the reason the snails and hermits are dying. Nitrates at 10-15 ppm is definitely not horrible...both snails and especially hermit crabs are pretty hardy. The nitrates aren't killing them.

Caulerpa taxifolia is illegal everywhere I believe. Google it.

    what macro

I have had chaeto in my fuge for years. It does awesome. I trim it back to about baseball sized every 2 weeks. Within those 2 weeks it grows enough to fill a 15 gallon tank (I run skimmerless, so it has plenty of nutrients to absorb). Nitrates, phosphates are always undetectable and corals...

    hypo water ?

I'm having a hard time understanding this. From my experience all hydrometers read differently. My current IO hydrometer reads about .002 higher than my previous SeaTest hydrometer. My LFS refractometer reads about .004 higher than my old SeaTest hydrometer. Because hydrometers are notoriously...
