    The green stuff

Okay, does coraline algae come in green? This stuff is all over this rock and is starting to appear on some other live rocks in my son's 10G nano. It's smooth, bright green, encrusting like coraline, and quite pleasing to the eye. I just don't want to let it go if it's a problem. :D Cool...

    Going REEF. OH NO!!

I'm converting my 75G FOWLR to a reef, slowly. I have about 40 pounds of LR that have been in my tank for a couple years or more. I swapped out my CC substrate with a 2" sand bed this weekend. I mixed in 20# of LS with about 40# of Aragonite sand, and also kept 2 small football sized stocking...

    Curing Live Rock, How Long?

Most of the LR I have purchased has been cured. Over the weekend a LFS got in a shipment of Tonga LR that was really cool, however it needed some curing, it was kinda dank. Anyway, I bought 20# and brought it home and put it into buckets with PH's to "cure". Water stunk pretty bad Saturday...

    Cleaning Crew

My 10G is ready for a cleaning crew. I have 10# LR, 10# LS mixed with aragonite sand for a 2" DSB. Using a HOB filter and an extra PH for circulation. Water looks great, tests good, 0 Ammonia and Nitrites, Nitrates are up a bit, water change helped that out. I want some hermits to start...

Livestock load? Is there a rule of thumb?

My 75G currently houses Yellow Tang 3.5 inches, Purple Tang 3.5, Humu Trigger 3, and one damsel 1.5. Steve mentioned earlier that this might be a bit crowded, while I always thought that this was a very light load on a system of this size. I realize that the Humu needs to go, but is there a...

    Nitrates are up, any suggestions?

75G FOWLR, Yellow Tang, Purple Tang, Damsel and 3 inch Humu. Large wet/dry filter full of bio-balls, skimmer, 4 power heads. Fighting the dreaded cyano-bacteria. Did a Nitrate test and voila, therein lies the culprit. Any suggestions on how to reduce the nitrates? I did a 30% water change...
