Moving 55g only inches (... literally)

The furniture movers have been a thought, but I don't want to do too much shifting with the tank. I was thinking of maybe sliding 2 metal strips under the stand and slide it with a lift strap. My carpet is thick, and so is the pad beneath it, so the tank has a good imprint as it is. Do you...

Moving 55g only inches (... literally)

I just purchased 2 MP10's and just realized that 1 side of the tank is too close to the wall for it to fit. I literally need 1 more inch and the MP10 will fit. I've also thought of just keeping a Koralia on the 1 side since it might be too much work for just a PH. Thoughts?

What is the best eel for 55gallon

You could fit a Moray eel in there, it'll be fine. Throw in a few more puffers too. ... seriously though, can you please take a picture of your current tank (video would be even better)? I HAVE to see this.

    Ten Turbo Snails

Haha, either will work, I have some corals with epoxy, but most with gel glue (no issues with snails knocking over either). I just don't like the epoxy look after you put it in because it looks really fake (have to wait for coraline to cover it). Super glue gel looks cleaner.

How do i know my bed resin filter is bad

Mr. X gave me the idea for horizontal installation (which makes sense), and the tube on top is before the resin change. In regards to the RO/DI's with horizontal config being considered a lower quality, I would have to disagree. Mine produced 0ppm until the resin started to look like the...

    Ten Turbo Snails

You can get it cheaper by just getting super glue gel at Home Depot. Coral-Affix is more because it has a picture of a coral on the bottle.

How do i know my bed resin filter is bad

Check out the last page in my reef build (in signature). I changed my resin a few months ago and took pictures.

    Baking Soda to boost ALK?

Great! I wanted to get the kit from BRS, but I figured if my other parameters are where they should be, why waste the other supplements?

    Baking Soda to boost ALK?

By alk solution do you mean the baking soda? I don't have the 2-part solution. I was just going to use Arm & Hammer baking soda.

    Buying corals online?

Where do you think your LFS gets their new corals/fish from? Online is safe, easy, and usually much more cost effective. I've ordered from liveaquaria.com and love their selection... just wish shipping was less than $34.

    Going from freshwater to saltwater?

You already have the general idea of how to keep fish, cycling, maintenance, cost, and general knowledge. ... Now, multiply all of that by 10, and cost by about 20. You will have to re-research saltwater fish and see what is compatible. Do you want to keep FOWLR (fish only with live rock)? Or...

    Baking Soda to boost ALK?

I went to my LFS a couple months back and was talking with a guy about BRS 2-part dosing system. He said this would help my tank flourish since my ALK has been down a bit, and I shouldn't just raise 1 (ALK/Cal/Mag) without having the other supplements. So I've been testing with Salifert kits...

DIY or buy an auto top off valve?

I purchased my JBJ ATO so I could sleep better at night. The guy at my LFS was trying to save me from buying the $120 piece by telling me how to build my own ATO. It involved splicing extension cords and "jimmy-rigging" pumps and floats for about $40. I'm not a fan of messing with electrical...

    live rock question...

If you're getting it from LFS, keep it fully submerged in water the whole trip home; only touching air to move from tank>bucket>tank. If you're having it shipped to you, it will have die-off and cause a spike. Best thing to do then would be to re-cure it using water from your PWC until the...

    HELP! Powerhead is broken!!!

You don't need to take it out. It doesn't HAVE to be attached to the suction cup if the cord is holding it in place. Heck, you could probably glue it back on and have it work good as new.

    Patrick's 55-Gal Reef Build

Lately I've been having a little issue with algae, even after adding a 15-piece CUC, PWC, and keeping the lights off for a day or 2. That's when I went to my RO/DI, since I hadn't really checked it in a while. 003ppm! Oh heeeellllno! I ordered replacement filters immediately to get that...

New shrimp but is one dead?

You should drip acclimate them using airline tubing with a knot in the middle to restrict the flow. Float the bag in the tank for ~30min, then drip for another 1.5-2hrs. This is the best method for the least amount of stress on inverts/fish.

New shrimp but is one dead?

I was in the same boat as you. Bought 2 from my LFS (last month) and before I made it home 1 was completely lifeless, while the other normal and healthy (still have him going strong). Before I left the store they looked the same. Honestly I can't explain it...luck of the draw.
