Chorus Frog Paludarium with Water Feature

So no build pictures on this one. It evolved fairly quickly over the course of the school year as two different groups of students worked on it. This one is dedicated to our native Boreal Chorus frogs, which I've housed in some of the other paludariums previously. The others are big enough that...

    Boreal Chorus Frog Paludarium

15 gallon paludarium set up in the traditional eggcrate style. This tank successfully incorporates a small water feature using a Repti Flow 200 pump.

When looking into Paludariums, consider the turtle tanks with the cutouts for the HOB filters.

Way to Reduce Flow on Repti Flo 200

Its built in - hides underneath the intake cover. You have to remove the cover and then turn to adjust the flow rate.

Way to Reduce Flow on Repti Flo 200

Anybody have any suggestions on how to throttle this pump back without shortening its life span? Set up our newest paludarium and incorporated a water feature out of a log, which works great, but the pump shoots the water over the top of our river, so need to throttle the pump back. Never mind...

    Aqueon LED 1 Gallon MiniBow

Anybody have any experience with this nano tank? Curious regarding other's experience with this particular nano. Just purchased one yesterday, set it up with ADA soil, a nano anubias and a clump of mixed liverwort and Java moss. Modded the filter (which has a pretty significant flow) with a...

Successful Low Maintenance Plants for a Paludarium

Thanks, I first had the emergent growth pattern show up on a piece of wood that was in the salamander paludarium. Thought it was pretty awesome, so been using it every sense. A little hard to get growing onto something below the water line sometimes, but once it is established it just goes...

Making Aqueon's 90 Gal Stand Strong Enough for 90 Gallons

End products looks nice, but you've spent a lot of money on 2x material that you didn't need. Of all those top boards you put in, less than 10% have anything at all sitting on them, so they aren't supporting anything regardless of the weight of the tank. Also forum users should be aware that if...

Successful Low Maintenance Plants for a Paludarium

Haven't done this in a while, so we will see how the images do. Attachment is a photo of Java moss growing below the water line and emerging up onto the rocks in my 20 Long Bog tank The Bonsai tree I've used is the fiscus...

    Sump for Freshwater

LOL natural kitty litter (i.e. baked clay), in a tall column to create a anaerobic area. Easy enough. The laterite to add iron back in might be a bit more difficult as it is mostly sold as a powder.

Successful Low Maintenance Plants for a Paludarium

As I sit back and survey my fishroom while sipping my favorite adult beverage, I can't help but be impressed by the amount of greenery which currently resides in most of the tanks. Now, I'm not going to lie and tell you that those plants are in perfect health or that I don't have issues with...

    Sump for Freshwater

Perfect thank you, will check it out. Replacement of micronutrients etc. as well as removal of toxic substances. Unless one has a complete regiment of dosing materials you run the risk of old tank syndrome if you aren't doing any water changes.

    Sump for Freshwater

So in a saltwater tank one uses a deep sandbed or life rock for denitrification. I doubt biomedia, given its porosity is going to create much of a anaerobic zone, so what would you suggest as a denitrification media. I will check out Kevin and see what he suggests. Not a real fan of throttling...

    Sump for Freshwater

Thanks, I did look at the links you posted. Couple quick questions for you. I presume the only chamber holds biomedia, perhaps with a filter pad over the top of it? Beyond that, I don't really understand the point of the rest of it. You've increased your water volume obviously, but beyond that...

    Sump for Freshwater

If you don't mind, please explain what you mean by a low flow deep porous section. Right now my first chamber is over biomedia, I presume that may be what you mean by porous? Not sure how that is going to promote denitrification however, as the bacteria are convert to nitrate, but still requires...

    Sump for Freshwater

So I've run sumps for saltwater tanks in the past, but am for the first time putting together a sump system for freshwater. I've read through a number of threads, and one of the common themes I see is that you don't want baffles in a freshwater sump. Right now I've got a baffled sump, and I'm...

    Idea for sustaining Scuds

I was thinking in place of your microfiber cloth. It would allow for more flow.

Ok, so I'm old school and slow. How do I see pictures? I'm particularly interested in your sump set-up.

Thoughts on Stocking a 65g Reef for a classroom

We'll be starting this semester, so they will definitely get to see the cycle take place, although I probably have some seed bacteria I can pull out of another tank. Definitely will have the clean-up crew, but think I'll avoid the emerald, more bad than good experiences with them I'm afraid...

Wy Renegade's 40B Tiger Salamander Paludarium

Nice, I'll look forward to seeing your paludarium build when you get it going. That is similar to what I was thinking, but mine will just be a straight angle rather than a dip.

Thoughts on Stocking a 65g Reef for a classroom

Definitely a pistol shrimp/goby pair. Not sure on the clowns, may do some of the rock flower nems and if i do I don't want any clowns. A wrasse or two may be required as well. firefish are great as well.

Thoughts on Stocking a 65g Reef for a classroom

Xenia and GSP maybe on small island. birdsnest and mushrooms are good choices, the frogspawn and torch are both stinging corals, so likely will avoid those. Thoughts on fish?
