    constant low ph

What type of decorations do you have and what type of substrate are you using? Do you have live plants? If so, do you use co2? I'd check the tap water levels and if straight from the tap it seems neutral or higher than you have now, check the website of the water provider or call them and see...

    Cleaning the tank.

I'd recomend a vinegar/water mix, it'll work just fine on water spots, maybe a 1:1 ratio? I know Python makes a tank safe glass cleaner that from the smell of it, is made with vineger, that's what I use just cuz it came free with my hose lol;)

What can i have in with my shrimp?

you say you have a "couple" guppies? How many is that? It could be that the guppies are picking on each other if the male/female ratio is bad. I'd move about 5 of those ghosties to the 10 gallon and leave the other 5 in the desk tank. Is there a filter on the tank and how often do you do water...

Whats the best freshwater planted aquarium substrate?

I've tried Schultz's aquasoil, flourite and ADA aquasoil and have to say ADA is my favorite. It looks alot better than the other two IMO, and my crypts are thriving in it, my crypts did ok in the other two but now I get about 6 new leaves a week. I'm using Amazonia numero uno, and haven't any...

i put the phone in the water

Nice looking pics! Love the first one!:D The boulder is a seriously awesome phone, my brother has the older one and my sister's boyfreind has the new one. We've put both through one heck of a beating without any damage. Threw it across a dorm room, stuck it in a glass of water for an hour. And...

    Clicking Aquarium.

I've got to ask, what type of fish do you have in there already? I've never had an aquarium click on its own, I've had fish that do it, a few botia species (most notable being skunk botias) make a really rather annoying clicking noise that if you're not accustomed to can freak you out.

    Why wouldn't I mix them?

Thanks, that'd be much appreciated! I know a couple people who work in florida farms but none of them would tell me.:p

What to keep with my tetras in a 46???

I'd go with either rainbowfish (they like to school though) or one (or two) gouramies, I like pearls and they'd look great with the blue/red theme IMO.
  13. Jacko

    Why wouldn't I mix them?

Well, there's diet. Mbuna can suffer something called Malawi bloat if they eat too much protein and I doubt you're going to find many south american cichlids that are happy to munch on spirulina and lettuce for the rest of their life. There's also the territorial part to it. African cichlids...

    scheduled chats?

I'm still all for it, but it's dependant on other people's input. How long do you think it should go for? 12 to... 4 pacific time? And then, what should the first topic be? General setup, FW, SW, ponds (getting into that season), cichlids, tetras.... any suggestions? We'd also need some...

    Sand for planted tank....what kind?

I think it really depends on personal taste. If you like dark sand, get dark sand (There's TMBS and other crushed quartz ideas), if you like white sand go with silica sand (can usually be found as sand blasting sand) and if you want a more mixed color, I like pool filter sand. If you're going...

Fish for Community Tank Ideas... (Betta + Rainbow Shark)

It looks pretty good, I can see a few potential problems though. First, the CAE, just drop that completely they're pretty aggressive and won't mix with the shark or the angels/discus very well. Second and last major problem with that mix is the angel/discus mix, this is iffy in large aquariums...

    so many snails and how

Personally, I think pest snails are a must for every aquarium, they are probably the best indicators of overfeeding out there, they only reproduce in heavy numbers if there is excess food, sure they might breed little by little but they seem to sense when there is extra resources for a big baby...

Need help heating a new aquarium

I would recomend at least 250 watts going though the tank, and it's always a good idea to have 2 heaters in a larger tank so I'd go with maybe 2 150 watt heaters in there, that way if one somehow malfunctions, you'll still have the tank heated while you sort out the problem or get a new one...

    so many snails and how

Up the amount of water changes you do on the tank (either twice a week or maybe 25 to 30 percent a week), snails thrive in dirtier water because there is more food for them to reproduce off of. On that same thought, cut back on feeding a bit and try to make sure that there isn't any extra food...

    super tiger shrimp

Nice ones Mg! How long before they're up for sale?;) brutus- yes and no, angelfish will eat any shrimp they can find, but if the tank's big enough there's a good chance they'll escape. Tetras, it depends... big ones like congo tetras wouldn't say no to a shrimpy snack but smaller ones like...

    Mid-water fish

What size tank do you have? IME, glofish occupy the middle and the top levels of the tank more than they occupy the top alone. I can't think of many more common clear fish than glass catfish and indian glassfish, both getting too big for your prearranged size. There are various tetra species...

    scheduled chats?

I'm a chat type person, I love getting to speak to people on a more direct line. So my idea is (not really my idea, i've been seeing it implemented more and more across the web) is to make a scheduled chat once a week on a pre-arranged subject (Reef, planted, FOWLR, SA/CA cichlids, asian fish...

Will a pearl gourami suit my tank?

lol, I've always heard the "try living your life in your closet" example for stunting... I have to say I like this new underwear one. ;) Fish do not grow to the size of the tank unless it ends up that they have tail and nose butting against either side of the tank. Science says that if the...

    non cichlid tankmates?

I'd say you could fit one or two synos. The tank isn't overstocked so much as the middle swimming space sounds full. A couple synos or a bristlenose pleco would occupy the bottom space of the tank and that'd fill you out IMO.

Will a pearl gourami suit my tank?

Dwarf gouramies could work out, kissing gouramies definitely won't. They can get nearly 12 inches, they're nearly as bad as gouramy gouramies. If the angels do turn aggressive though, a dwarf gourami won't be able to hold it's own against them.
