Sadly I Have to quit my hobby

Don't give up your tank unless you have absolutely no choice. It's a great stress reliever and a wonderful hobby. For the money you are asking and you'll get, don't sell! My son's 12 gallon has seen him through some pretty rough times. It gives your brain something else to think about. At...

    Super quick cycle?

This hobby is not for the "super quick" in my opinion. The whole thing about sw tanks is patience. Try and enjoy the process. Read and research. It's so much fun to watch your tank grow into something beautiful.

Buying live rock with green bubble algae on it

Personally, I wouldn't knowingly put live rock in my tank with bubble algae. If you keep corals, it can kill off polyps and multiples like crazy. You could dry the rock out and culture it all over again.

    Jimbo's Picotope!

Secret Ninja Brother (otherwise known as Bum in Basement) can take your care package to the postoffice today. I have time to pack it up since we don't have school. -10 at the moment. Are they still alive? When I hatched the brine shrimp eggs at school, I needed a heater to keep the tank...

    Jimbo's Picotope!

Very nice aquascaping SON! What a good idea to include those sexy shrimp! Now why didn't I think of that? BTW, you forgot a few frags here, can you say "YOINK!"

    sump pump size and return?

Lights officially "yoinked" by Jimbo7 (one son) temporarily for his seahorse. As predicted!

    algae issues

I posted with this same problem about 6 months or so ago in my 24g nano before it cracked. It drove me crazy. Same problem - low PH and brown "stuff" on the sand. Didn't act like cyno (wasn't slimy). I ended up reading something about tanks that are covered all the time (which mine was) and...

Got a couple for you ... and more pictures to come

I'll leave the IDing to the experts. But, we just went through a nasty battle with bubble algae - came in on a piece of coral. When you removed it, did it burst? Any bubbles that you see in the future (almost a guarantee I think), try and take out without breaking. That's how the spores...

What's the latest on live rock supply? News?

Can someone fill me in on what is happening with the supply of live rock? Obviously, it's in short supply. I'm assuming from what I've read, that supply has been cut off from Fiji. Is that because it's been overpicked, for lack of a better word? Will supplies open back up again? What is the...

How to clean acrylic tank? Sand residue!

I ended up being able to get the algae off with gentle scraping with a credit card edge - worked great and didn't scratch the acrylic at all. I'm in the process of mixing salt water now to fill it. I have a small batch of live rock coming next week. I also have to buy a bunch of base rock and...

    Emergency on clown!!!

There are a number of diseases and parasites you should check out. I would QT the clownfish in question and start researching and reading. There are some good links out there. If you QT you may not lose other fish.

    My 72 bow

I'm not sure I'm understanding this post correctly but . . . just for the record. We have clownfish - very hardy fish and easy to take care of, great beginner sw fish. Puffer - cool fish, one of my favorites but . . . needs special and regular feeding and grows quite large. Ours will have to...

    tank

One of the hardest things to do is the aquascaping with the rocks! It looks so easy when other people have nice set ups, doesn't it? Even on my little pico I've rearranged my rocks 5-6 times in just a few months. So, you might want to think about varying your formations with the rock that you...

    cant get skimmer tuned in

I would think that extending your air line to keep it out of the water may solve your problem. Lots of interesting reading on mods for this tank and what people have done with the chambers. One of these days, I'll get my pictures up. Mine is coming along nicely although 1 clown fish...

    3 Gal Nano Lighting

I have the picotope 3 gallon. I added an additional light by Coralife. There are 2 9watt bulbs in there (50/50) as well. I believe for softies you need about 3 to 4 watts per gallon but the experts on here will know more. These tanks are small and not too deep so that helps. My biggest...

I'll give the vacuum a try. I'm a little scared to try bleach though.

    Sun Coral Care

We have 3 different sun coral and then do require a bit of patience at first. The effort is worth it however! The first one we bought appeared to be half starved - hardly opened and had very short tentacles. We experienced many of the same issues you have had with feeding. I've taken over...

How to clean acrylic tank? Sand residue!

Help! I just got my slightly used acrylic tank. It has some sand residue left in it as well as a bit of algae and general funk. How do I clean it without scratching the tank?

    sump pump size and return?

Just picked up the tank and set it up on the stand. There is more room under the stand than I expected. I have an Eshopps fuge coming so I'll see how that works. I like the idea of a separate return if need be. It's something I can add later. My list of "needs" is much longer than my...

    cant get skimmer tuned in

Hmmm. Does it have an adjustment or air line that needs to stay above your water level? Mine attached by suction cups and had a small air line. You needed to adjust it so that it was at a certain point in the water so I got the foam like bubbles in the top container to show that it was...
