72 Gallon Tank Lighting - Project

Hi All, Really progress is being made on the planning now, I have made most of the decisions, however a few are yet to be made. The lighting, I can get 5 T5 39W lights above my tank, they would be approx 5cm/2inch above the water line, giving me a total of 195W. They will be 2xActinic's...

Looking forward to seeing how you have done this, I'm in the process of designing a new hood for my tank, and would love to incorporate the blue LED's, rather than another tube. Thanks Steve

    MH Bulbs - Retrofit installation

Thanks for all that, I think I am going to probably a 6 or 7 T5 system over the tank, mixture of lights for specific temp colours etc. Then I have some good control for the photoperiod of sunrise and set, plus lamps for a moon lamp. So that should be 6x39Watt day lights, and 1x39Watt night...

    MH Bulbs - Retrofit installation

Hi all, I'm really struggling with my Watts/Litre. My tank is a 270L Bow fronted, which means that the rectangle section at the back is 120cm x 26cm, and then the front bows out 19 cm more. I can't buy an off the shelf lighting system. If I install regular T5 tubes I can only get 3 x 34"...

A Mixture of Cured and Uncured rock...

Hmmmm, more new information - what is base rock? Am I right to assume that this is normal rock - ie out of a volcano etc? Thanks for the other advice, it really is starting to help my plan come together. Thanks Steve

A Mixture of Cured and Uncured rock...

Hi all, I've read the very informative article on this website about Live Rock. I therefore have a question, If I only put a small amount of Uncured rock in the tank, say 2 lb, allowed it to cycle (The levels wouldn't get so high), then I can add the rest of the Live Rock as Cured rock yes...

Hi All (Copied from Welcome Forum for Advice)

Ref #8 - I was thinking about crushed live rock rubble for the added surface area. #5 - Yes powerheads, not sure yet, as I say I haven't bought them yet, so I need about 15x my tank, so that's about 3,500 to 4,000 LPH #9 was to again increase the surface area for the good bacteria to live...

Hi All (Copied from Welcome Forum for Advice)

Thanks to both of you, Just to clarify its a 270 Litre tank, approx 70 US Gallons. As I say I am still at the early planning stages. Not too sure about the sump idea, I will put up with the additional "clutter" in the tank for the moment - I can always swap over later. Ok the rough list...
