Just an Old Bird Looking for a Place to Roost

As we all know, the best laid plans can go awry. I do have the benefit of having quite few extra tanks. The last move went well, a move of about 50 miles. This move will be about 350 miles. But the racking and the water system will be in place to move one bank at a time. Not going to be easy...

I just found two dead baby fish (goldfish) in my pond.

Water temperature too high? What are the readings of your water tests?

"Last additions..I swear" Uh-huh, sure. Someone post this on the forum bulletin board. Nice fish by the way.

    Tank's beauty

Any well thought out tank is eye candy. I have a blackwater tank that is probably one of the nicest tanks I have ever owned. Lighting is somewhat diminished due to the tanins in the water, but it is a looker. I also have a Rift Lake tank that is void of green, just as pleasing to the eye...

Just an Old Bird Looking for a Place to Roost

I can't complain. I have the fishroom of every fishkeeper's dreams, though it was a nightmare getting it to the point it is today. The move will be much easier in that the racks will already be set up. I'll move all empty tanks first, empty meaning uninhabited. I am thinking it will take 3-4...

    Flex not too Flexible

Dropping down in pipe size increases back pressure and is hard on the pump, creating more resistance on the motor. I would hesitate dropping down to 3/4", though 1" may be OK.

Just an Old Bird Looking for a Place to Roost

I will be moving ALL of it this summer 350+ miles away. Done it before, not easy but I've had the experience of moving , not quite the quantity, before. The new house, brand new, has a bigger basement and much better lighting. Pictures will come......

Just an Old Bird Looking for a Place to Roost

Haven't had to change water yet. It does have a 150g reservoir that keeps the water level up. And in most big tanks drastic water changes aren't necessary as in smaller tanks. 203g, huh? That IS alot of water. Doubt that I'll be making wholesale water changes like that..

    How did you learn?

Research. research, and more research. Then came the trial and error. Nothing drives home a learning experience better than making a mistake.

    Where from in Michigan/Wisconsin

Not from either Michigan or Wisconsin, but I am from Big 10 country!! I hope that counts. We vacation yearly in Indian River, Michigan(Burt and Mullett Lakes). Travel to the bridge, the locks, Taquehamon Falls, Whitefish Point. It's a yearly pilgrimage!! The better half's family has made the...

Just an Old Bird Looking for a Place to Roost

You know, I don't know exactly. And that's the truth! The fishroom evolved without much thought to how much water was there. I would "guestimate" somewhere near 16,000g give or take. That number, and the number of total tanks, also includes the 14 show/display tanks in the living area of this...

Just an Old Bird Looking for a Place to Roost

As one would imagine, the basement is crowded. I have tried to take pictures but can only get glare. The setup is unique and a result of over 25 years of serious trial and error. Most of which was error. But so it goes. It has been refined to the point of low labor, while still being able to...

Just an Old Bird Looking for a Place to Roost

Expert? Hardly. Even with all of the years in the hobby, I'm still learning. The process never stops. meegosh, I am no longer moderating on the other site. I stepped down for reasons best left alone. My time that was once spent there will be drastically cut. I am a member of many other forums...

Just an Old Bird Looking for a Place to Roost

I hope you all are sitting down or are able to land in a soft spot. The number of tanks is.......... Maybe we should make this a game. You guess and I will say higher or lower. Nah. That would take forever. The number is 492. And the basement isn't full yet!!:shocked!: Call it insanity, call...

Just an Old Bird Looking for a Place to Roost

I have been in the hobby for over 46 years. I now have more tanks than any sane person could imagine. I actually have more tanks than most shops. WAY more. I would give the number but I might be banned for being insane. I also belong to more forums than I can keep up with. Anyway, just joined...
