Video of my Dwarf Puffers and more!

I love my dwarf puffers too! I have two in a 29g tank and they are so fun to watch. Mine eat the heck out of some ghost shrimp though, do yours?

    Marineland C-220 canister filter

Sicklid - I might be interested in this canister filter. I am doing some research on it first....It says it's for tanks up to 55g. I have a 55g, and I really like to overfilter. I bought the HOB Marineland Penguin biowheel for this tank and I don't really like how much noise it makes, but I am...

Not sure whats going on with my fish!

The first thing that comes to my mind after reading your post is that your tank is not "cycled". You said it has only been up and running for three weeks and the fish have been in for two, so you are basically cycling the tank with fish? Is there anyway you can take the dwarf frogs and cories...

    3 Gallon Eclipse

First of all, did it break during the warranty period and do you still have the receipt? I am not sure if Petsmart would replace/return an item sold that long ago without the original receipt. The Eclipse's are neat little tanks...if I were you, I would try calling Marineland directly and...

    Ammonia Testing

I use the API (Aquariuam Pharmacueticals Institute) master test kit for freshwater. I am not sure if you can find them in Australia, but test kits similar to the API would be preferred over the paper test strips. HTH! :)

    New Angel Owner Freaking Out!

Well, it might just be normal behavior becaues the tank is not overstocked in the least. Maybe it is just their way of being kinda nervous in a new tank??? Anyone else??

    New Angel Owner Freaking Out!

Your parameters seem fine. Again, how many angels did you add? My angels go to the top occasionally and are especially active at the top while feeding but they don't just hang out at the top "sucking air". How long has tank been set up, again? By your signature, it doesn't seem like the tank...

Weird Water Chemistry - Not a NOOB, just STUMPED!

Hi Dean and welcome to AA! It does sound like you are going through another cycle. Your biggest "carriers" of the bacteria were your filter/filter media and gravel and both were either cleaned or removed, so I would definitely think you are going through another cycle. I would recommend Prime...

    New Angel Owner Freaking Out!

Is this in the 60g tank? Did you check your water parameters? How many angels did you add? You might be having an ammonia spike that is making it hard for them.

Cloudy/Grey web-like stuff in my 5 gal tank!

She needs to do whatever size change brings the nitrite down to safe levels for the fish...25% may not do it. That is the point I was trying to stress to her.

cannister filter question and water movement

Neilan - would a couple of months be long enough for them to be clogged up? I'll ask him about the output placement. Thanks!

Cloudy/Grey web-like stuff in my 5 gal tank!

Oh funny....I was so taken with the "don't change water comment" that I completely missed that....disagree with that too. Unless you have an extremely heavily planted tank. I have done a silent cycle with a heavily planted tank before and it worked fine, but I always suggest fishless cycling...

    Discus??

I have to agree with Bryan here...I am raising angel fry (of course they aren't discus), but I have also researched it and have found evidence that says to do frequent water changes as there are hormones that build up in the water that can prevent their full growth if not removed regularly. I...

Cloudy/Grey web-like stuff in my 5 gal tank!

Yeah, probably will...lol. Changing water does not restart cycle as the bacteria are not in the water they are in/on filter media and substrate. I STILL suggest doing a big water change to get those levels down...there's no other way around it. Wish there were. :)

cannister filter question and water movement

I hope this post makes sense as I am trying to decipher my brother's problem without seeing it. He lives in CA and I am in NC and he called me this morning with a question I am not sure how to answer since I don't have experience with cannister filters. I am not sure what brand it is either...

    Feeding Vegetables to Fish

Well, I hope daily isn't bad. I have been placing one small to medium piece of red leaf lettuce in their tank the last three days and securing with a veggie clip. They just love it!

    Feeding Vegetables to Fish

I did try it and both my angels LOVED the lettuce! It cracked me up watching them tear into it! How often should they be fed the lettuce? Is it okay to give it to them daily?

Cloudy/Grey web-like stuff in my 5 gal tank!

Um...not sure where to start....did you first cycle your tank? or did you buy the tank and then put fish in it directly? If that is what you did you are cycling your tank with fish. You might want to read up on the nitrogen cycle on this forum. There are MANY discussions concerning it. Just type...

Lowering the PH of a tank w/ Aragonite sand?

I've also read that Indian Almond leaves lower ph also. I got a huge pack from a member on here block2. Look in classified section.

    I think I screwed up.

That's what I was going to suggest also...sounds like it might just have been air bubbles from the filter creating splash.

    Sick Black Moor

What size tank are they in and how often do you perform water changes? Also, do you have a freshwater test kit (I recommend the API brand). I would perform a 50% water change with dechlorinated water and see if that helps first.
