    Saltwater Plumbing Help Needed!

I have valves coming and going. I like the idea of being able to shut it down in an emergency or maintenance situation. I'm not sure why you would 'never' restrict a drain. Every bend restricts the drain

need help please!!! bubbles on rock

Been gone for awhile and was tooling around the site and have noticed that this seems to be a recurrnig theme (not just about crabs but all inverts) "The crabs help get rid of the hair algea but the nutrients from the algea are still in the tank, now as crab turd. So the crab takes care of the...

He'll change at night (as they all do) and when he gets stressed. Mine changes when he swims in the rock work.

Can anyone ID this algae for me?

Why do you think you have a phosphate issue? The fact that you have (or think you have ) 0 nitrates is ,IMO, the smoking gun... BANG!

Ive seen a few yellow watchman gobys and they are all a greyish color

Breeders have found they can. Females sometimes start off w/ some gray features that become more pronounced. Males usually bright yellow. Check out WWM or advancedaquarist for more details.

    Nitrate problem

No it doesn't. Live rock is no different (fundamentally) than bioballs. As long as it's kept wet the bacteria live on. Lets look at the ocean as an example. Does the reef or rocks ever come out of the water.. Ahhh yea.. You could easily strap LR rubble to a board and run water over it and...

    that darn pesky cyano!

Chemi-clean works (follow the directions EXACTLY).... BUT... it only gets rid of what is there.. The conditions still exist so it'll come back. What kind of food do you feed? How often? How much?

    Salinity Sudden Change

Probably not a big deal. IMO 024 is better anyway. If it really bugs you, drain some out and replace w/ pure h20.. down goes the salinity eh

    Is this product any good?!?

I'm saying that the canister filter was designed to use a siphon as a water delivery method. Over the lip of the tank, the water flows to the can and is pushed back up to the lip and over. Not pushed into the can. IMO there will be alot of pressure on that impeller but that's just me. :) If...

    Is this product any good?!?

Looks like a 404 to me. Yours must be different though, I'm sure.. Good luck Just for kicks I'll tell you that it is under pressure. The pressure of all that water volume above those pipes. It may work but it wasn't designed for it. Anyway, enjoy

different types of clownfishes in one tank?

u realize that the clowns are damsels, right? I've got 3 yellow tails. They play nice though they are the smallest in the tank (outside the gobies)

    Is this product any good?!?

I assume you used a bulkhead and barb fittings to attach? That's going to be a lot of pressure on that can, be interesting to see how it works out. I hope you can cut the water flow for maintenance.. If you ever forget, or it malfunctions ... splash because it's no longer a low pressure...

    Sump water level

assuming you have baffles, the water needs to be high enough to flow over the lower baffles. under, over, under. It should not operate like a bio-ball trickle filter. Well it can if designed right but not optimal IMO

    Is this product any good?!?

Is that plumbed thru the bottom headed for a sump? drain and return? Or is that the canister piping?

    algae on sand

cyano. Willing to bet that your nitrates and/ phosphates aren't 0. It's on your rocks also. Excess nutrients in the water. If it's a 'newer' tank then it's to be expected you'll go thru this phase. If it's established it points to less than optimal water conditions. Amount of food, type of...

    Can i use compressed air?

    Clownfish..help!

IMO the tank was cycled with the addition of the LR. The failure to feed the bacteria for a month is what 'de-cycled' the tank. The bacteria dies because they were not fed. Without fish you needed to add a small amount of fish food, direct ammonia or some other source. You've gone and...

How to treat ick in reef no quaratine!

Sorry, I'm not trying to be a pest here but the sources cited stated a concentration level that killed that parasite. If that's the basis for buying into the garlic cures ich then it seems to follow that the parasite would be killed by contact with the substance, not ingestion..no? Or is it...

How to treat ick in reef no quaratine!

'“Garlic extract had no effect in low amounts (30 mg/L), but at high concentrations (117 and 570 mg/L) it killed the tomocysts within 24 h.” -This article shows that garlic can actually kill Ich tomocysts, although more garlic is required to be effective compared to malachite green.' Was...
