    Any ideas what this is?

Because I did not know if it was one or the other. Nassarius like to be in the sand so i'm leaning towards the other.

    Blue throat trigger eating problems

Soaking in a little garlic might help as well.

    Any ideas what this is?

It looks like a Nassarius snail to me. Closer look might be needed to make sure it is not a conch.

    Using NSW

Pollutant wise, you will have less issues using NSW if you collect it in deeper water. Away from inlets and close to the coast and such. Living down there, I'm sure you access to a boat to do such a thing. You still risk the unwanted hitchikers though.

What ocean is in your backyard? Where?

    Fumanchu!

Beautiful fish. What kind of lighting do you have. That helps with the colors as well. Also, what is that spotted thing in the background of the third pic? Reminds me of a Clown Trigger or something.

found this in my tank this morning

It looks like a brittle star to me. A Serpent. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=497+528+2126&pcatid=2126

    Xenia's

Well, they constantly release mucus as a chemical warfare defense with other corals. More so when cut. If you run some carbon, that will help filter it out of the water.

    Led or T5's

I agree Greg. It seems like every time I change my T5 bulbs, it's an eye opener at how much the difference is.

    Led or T5's

You should have checked them out somewhere before ordering. I have seen both and the ones that got the whites wish that they got the blues instead. I agree that the blues had a better look to them. The whites seemed to wash out everything. Thats just my opinion though.

    Xenia's

Agreed. For some reason, a bonsai tree popped intio my head so that was my reply. My logic was that if you have the patience and keep at it, you can keep it at bey....just like a bonsai.

    Live Rock

I guess i'm the only one that likes the suprises of hitchikers (besides aptaisa of course). I had purchased a rock from a tub at one of my LFS that was supposed to be just rock. After bringing it home, I ended up with the additions of a lawnmower blenny, a few hermits, a couple snails and a...

Or keep pruning them like a bonsia tree. ;)

    Led or T5's

Don't wait if you can. What size tank are you putting the Sol Blue's on? If it's that 29, you don't need that many. T5's are great. I'm using 6 over my 75. Two of which being overdriven by icecap 660 ballast. Replacing the bulbs just once a year is pushing it. I replace mine around the 6...

    Led or T5's

Mine is 48" as well. I will start with two and bump it up to four when I can afford it. If it wasnt for the center brace, I would just get three.

    Led or T5's

The AI Sol Blue's are the way to go if have the funds. You would be looking at (average) between $500 and $600 per 12" unit. You can get one with a controller and daisy chain others to it. With that controller, you can adjust to any color temp you want. You also get your choice of optics...

    Upgrading lights

I was going to suggest that but it looks like he was trying to save money.

    Upgrading lights

Odyssea products are not UL listed. Which means that they have not gotten product safety certification. They have had many issues with fixtures catching fire as Carey mentioned. I know the low cost is tempting but I would go against it.

    Bio Balls Good or Bad?

Bio balls are only bad if you do not keep up with the maintenance on them. They would need to be cleaned every other day in order for them to not become nitrate factories. It's better to not use them IMO. If this is for a saltwater setup, then I would suggest doing a simple DIY sump with a skimmer.

Sans PWC, what can affect (lower) the SG of a tank?

Yep. I use Reef Crystals from IO and it mixes clear pretty quick. Even so, I let it mix for a day with a heater.

    saltwater baby octopus

With his/her luck, they would get a blue ringed one without knowing.

Sans PWC, what can affect (lower) the SG of a tank?

It's pretty much a general (unspoken) rule of thumb to follow with all salt mixes.

    saltwater baby octopus

:D Glad you answered this. I saw it earlier but it almost seemed like a test to me or almost a gag post. IDream is right Em. If you are serious, you need to read up. Cephalopod's are not easy to care for. Even for the most experienced. They also do not live long in captivity. Do yourself...

    help with unknown anemone?

I saw that too but didnt think anything of it till after I replied. I have had ones that looked like that for years and they don't seem to spread. I think there is a certain kind that spreads like the plague though. Colonial hydroids.
