What is the PH and how warm is the tank. For these guys you should have soft, warm water. I usually have mine around 82. Is there a possibility that there is another fish in the tank that is harassing them?

Welcome to AA. Usually IMO Cichlids + Plants = destruction of plants

As for other Cichlids in with your Angels.....most are too aggressive. I would consider other Amazonian type tankmates that would appreciate the same water parameters like tetras, plecos, ottos and cories. As for the Tetras.....Cardinals and Rummynose are my favorites. They look really nice...

Undergravel filters do serve a purpose. My only advice is this.....when you do do your regular PWC's ....vaccuum a portion of the gravel to keep it fairly clean and avoid any "dead " spots. Make sure the flow through the filter is sufficient to keep your bacteria happy.

I just picked up 4 new Altum Angels last night. They're silver dollar size(body) and beautiful. I am housing them in a well established planted 125g with some Ottos and Pristella Tetras. I'll try and get some pics up soon.

I agree....you gotta get the nasties out of the gravel. If you let it build up, you're just askin for trouble down the road.

Being a rookie parent , she may eat them....but in the sump she'll feel safer and less stressed. She'll be more likely to care for them properly. I'd probably separate her from the fry after about 2 weeks or so.

Mbuna are usually very good parents. She will expel them from her mouth when she deems it safe .....and suck them back in when danger is near. This will continue until they get too big to hide in her mouth anymore
