    Some Betta questions.

Well, If I had actually bought them, I would not have gotten any of them! *laughs* I went to pick up a used 5 gallon tank for the betta I already have. When I got there, the lady said her fish came with it. It was a betta, a neon, and a pleco! Yikes, not the mix I would choose for a 5...

    Some Betta questions.

Yeah, there's no way I would have put that poor fish in there, but they had apparently been living that way for some time. I suspect that the little neon originally had some friends, and they were getting picked off one by one...the people I got the tank and the fish from didn't strike me as...

    New (unplanned) betta boy!

so, I hadn't really planned on getting more fish. But I went to pick up a great deal on a 5 gallon setup for my betta, Laurent. Here is Laurent's current home: I figured he could use something a bit bigger than a gallon! Got to the house that is selling the 5 gallon setup, and there were...

    Some Betta questions.

I just got three fish 'given' to me when I went to buy the 5 gallon tank off of craigslist. One is a blue betta, one is a neon tetra, and one is a tiger pleco. *sighs* I guess the neon and the betta have been together for a while, so I figured I'd give it a try. Well, today, I see that the...

I only feed mt bettas 1-2 pellets every other day. helps maintain water quality, and is plenty to provide the nutrition the fish need to stay healthy.

Ideal water qualities for a planted tank + betta

Well, I found my 'magic balance'. The tank is doing GREAT! I am using 100% RO water, 2 measures of Seachem Equilibrium, 2 measures of Seachem Alkeline Buffer, and 1 measure of Seachem Acid Buffer. This is giving me a wonderful pH of 7.4, a kH of 7, and a gH of 9. I am much happier with this...

Heater for small tanks (1-3 gallon)

wow, that little heater is GREAT! I was actually thinking about just setting my little 1 gallon desk tank on a heating pad! It gets cold inour office at night.

Ideal water qualities for a planted tank + betta

I did have someone else suggest the Indian Almond Leaves to me from a different forum. My only issue with that is the water color change. In my own home, I wouldn't have a problem with it. But it is on my desk at work, and people could easily think the water was 'dirty' and my boss...

Ideal water qualities for a planted tank + betta

I think I am going to do some testing on my home tap water, to see how that is. I have not really kept fish on Alaska well water before, so I have no idea what the levels will be. But I might as well check it out! I don't like that pH spike, and I REALLY don't like not knowing what caused it...

Ideal water qualities for a planted tank + betta

    Well. My pH is back to 7.6. OK....can't tall you why, all I'm doing is partial water changes. But, OK! I'll take it! 10/24/08 pH = 7.6 kH = 3 gH = 2 NO2 = 0 NH3 = 0 NO3 = 5

Ideal water qualities for a planted tank + betta

    HALP! OK, I have not done anything in the little tank, except a partial water change on Sunday. And my pH is through the roof. 8.8!!! yipes. 10/17/08 pH = 7.6 kH = 4 gH = 3 NO2 = 0 NH3 = 0.5 NO3 = 5 10/18/08 pH = 8 kH = 3 gH = 3 NO2 = 0 NH3 = 0.5 NO3 = 5 10/19/08 - 30% water change...

Ideal water qualities for a planted tank + betta

Thank you! That is EXACTLY the information I was looking for! I am working on finding the 'magic' mixture, doing all of my tests on water that I'm not adding to my tank. So, I can create the 'perfect' chemistry before I add it to my tank. And once I do find the right mix, I will transition...

Ideal water qualities for a planted tank + betta

Thanks for the responses! The reason I have to worry about the kH and gH is that I will be using 100% RO water in the future. The tap water at my office is not safe, it has a very high level of arsenic. So that is not an option to use in the tank. So I will be adjusting the kH and gH...

    Nice to meet you!

Well, like everybody else who starts a post in this forum, I'm new here! Right now, I just have a little 1 gallon tank on my desk at work with a lovely VT male betta. For years and years I had larger tanks running. I always had at least one tank running from about 1993 until 2002. But then...
