    Help identifying problem

What do you mean not yet surfaced? The fish has already lost a fin, has damage to other fins and has spots on the body. Water conditions do not cause fins to fall off. Infections from the water do. Changing water is absolutely a must and may get rid of the root cause but will not get rid of the...

    help with water test results

You have two different bacteria at work, forget the names, one consumes amonia and produces nitrite, the second one consumes nitrite and produces nitrate. My theory is: The seed material was live bacteria, the second bacteria should have been equal to the first and any amonia the first...

    help with water test results

Nitrate is fine, amonia is dangerously high by either test method. Partial water change is in order to get the amonia below 1ppm at the most. You can also use Kordon's Amquel Plus or Seachem Prime as a dechlorinator along with the water change to help reduce the amonia even more than the water...

And if you seed your tank with a good bacteria source you can get through the cycle in less than 2 weeks.

My setup for comments and advice

My opinions: Undergravel filters are less efficient and harder to clean than other types. Neons and cory's are not the best choices for cycling a tank IMO. Test the water at least every other day, do partial water changes if amonia or nitrite get near 1ppm and don't add any more fish until your...

Fishless cycling: are my levels too high?

make sure that the plastic part that attaches to the faucet adaptor is tight to the plastic part below it, if you look inside it looks like a large hex shape (for a large allen wrench) Mine was loose the first time I used it and I sprayed water all over my bathroom. When I fishless cycle, at the...

Hi from Ny, i could use some help PLZ?

The main thing, put fish compatability aside, is the aquariums cycle. You can google that term for more info but basically bacteria will build up that will convert amonia to nitrite and then to nitrate. The amonia is from fish waste and uneaten food and is very toxic to fish, Nitrite is just as...

It would not hurt to do one before you add fish regardless of the nitrate reading.

    Where to begin?

You would have to shop around. Here is one on Ebay, I am not suggesting you buy this one but you can see from the picture that it was $199 at Petco for a 25 gal. Just to give a ballpark figure. Where to begin?

You may consider buying a Marineland tank, the Eclipse model. The filter is inside the hood and they do make a 29 gallon. PS: my Marineland 75 gallon tank came with the Stealth heater, I don't know if they are the manufacturer or not.

Cutting back on Feeding (Planaria related)

The cube of frozen bloodworms is too much. feed half one day and save the other half for the next day. and I wouldn't give it every day either. Give your pleco a slice of Zuchini every once in a while, he will love it. no seeds and you can leave it in overnight if you remove it first thing in...

    cycle is it finished

Did you tell the expert at the fish store that your nitrate was 20ppm less than a week ago and now it has magically dissapeared? What are you treating your water with when you do a water change? Some products, like Amquel Plus for example, will remove some nitrate. On the plus side neons are...

Fishless cycling: are my levels too high?

Keep feeding the amonia every day and keep an eye on the nitrite, Try to keep it around 5ppm or less, 8ppm at the most. PWC as needed. If you are seeding with any kind of bacteria now is the time to add more. (if you stop feeding the amonia the bacteria will die)
