Ich in a goldfish + cory tank

Well, no, the new fish didn't give my bioload a big hit. My bioload actually went significantly down, as I had two fairly large cichlids last week. One died and I gave the other away ;) I'm also perfectly happy with the two goldfish and three small corys in the tank - it is absolutely not...

Ich in a goldfish + cory tank

No other tanks to move the corys to, and I don't have the space or cash to get and set up a new tank to house them in for a while, especially given the possibility of bringing some of the parasites over with the fish or some bio media. Ammonia is about as low as it can get and I have some...

Ich in a goldfish + cory tank

Yes, no doubt the ich came with one of the new fish. The ryukin came from Petsmart and the black moor came from an independent shop I regard rather highly. Who knows which fish the ich came with. I'll get some aquarium salt and a hydrometer on my way home this evening.

Ich in a goldfish + cory tank

Both of the goldfish are new to the tank (4 days for one, a week for the other). I'm wary about adding salt, as it seems a sufficient quantity of salt might be detrimental to the corys. I can't imagine it's anything other than ich. I don't see any parasites on any of the other fish, but there...

Ich in a goldfish + cory tank

I have a 29 gallon tank with a pair of young fantail goldfish and some older corys. Just noticed a few white spots on one of the goldfish. Looks like ich. It seems the recommended treatments are different for tropical fish and goldfish so I'm wondering what the best course of action is in this...

    Are my Goldfish Healthy?

You're doing fine. I echo the suggestions that a bigger tank would be ideal but they're fine for now. As they get bigger see if you can convince them to get a 29 or 30 gallon tank. 20 -> 29 is a nice upgrade, and has the same footprint so you can use the same stand. Keep the same filters and...

    10 Gal Cycling question

 I got confused with another thread and forgot he had some fish in there. Derp.

    API test kit design Fail?

It's important for the nitrate test. The others are fine with turning up and down a few times.

    API test kit design Fail?

No, a little leaking won't alter the test results. You're measuring the concentration of certain molecules in the water. Yes, they're in parts per million, but when you leak a little bit of the solution, you're leaking the solute and the solvent (and the test chemicals) roughly equally. You'd...

    API test kit design Fail?

No, you misread his post. Read it again. He's not putting his finger directly over the open end of the tube and exposing it to the water and chemicals inside. He's holding the cap down with his finger.

    10 Gal Cycling question

If you leave the tank with zero ammonia for a period of time, the bacteria will start to die off. You are adding more ammonia, right..?

    10 Gal Cycling question

I have a few Otos that seem to do the job pretty well in my tank. They never get more than an inch, inch and a half long.

    10 Gal Cycling question

Fast but not unreasonably so. Take a sample to the LFS just to be sure. I think you're OK though.

    10 Gal Cycling question

So you now have 0 ammonia, 0 nitrites, and 10-20 ppm nitrates? If so, I think you're good. You have fish in there, even though just two small ones, but they are producing ammonia. If there's no ammonia in the water, and no nitrites, your bacteria colonies are established. Don't toss a bunch...

    Fluval 405 question

I'd put the carbon in a bag unless it's directly below a sponge or filter floss or something.

What kind of cichlids are these?

Just got them from a friend. They're all fairly young.

Can i cycle without a fishless cycle

Yes, you can do a fish cycle. That's how the vast majority of aquariums in history have been cycled. It's very tough on the fish, though. Somewhat torturous, in fact. If you don't mind killing a few, go ahead with it.

    Wanted: Eheim inlet/outlet

Long story short I have an Eheim 2213 and no longer have the input and output tubes that came with it. I'm looking for the spray bar and suction pipe assemblies. Anyone have any lying around?

filter recomendation for a 29 gal

The AC are definitely the way to go for hanging filters. Just be sure you only rinse the sponge out in water from the aquarium and not tapwater.

filter recomendation for a 29 gal

I dislike the splashing sound and ugliness of hang-on-tank filters. I have an Eheim 2213 on my 29g that seems to do the job, though I'd prefer a 2215.

Blood parrots? All the pictures I see online of blood parrots look totally different.

Got some cichlids, need help identifying

Picked up a few new fish from one of my friends who has recently found himself with many extras. Anywhere, here they are. If anyone knows what they are, feel free to clue me in!

    Fish for small tank

These two little platies look pretty lost in there. Why is one betta and a few snails different from two platies and a pair of guppies, anyway?
