    Doug's 250, now 300, in wall build

My HOB skimmer (yes I know, I would rather have a sump but can't where I'm at) has an overflow tube I have zip tied back over the tank. There have been a few times it has overflowed and the extra just runs right back through the tube into the tank. I am also using a HOB CPR fuge and it works...

Seriously, how long until my Coral Beauty comes out in the open ?

Oh one more note, the beauty is the same size as the yellow tang if not slightly larger.

Seriously, how long until my Coral Beauty comes out in the open ?

The 90 is a temp tank until the house sells (been on the market for 8 months now, was really hoping it would have been gone by now) and I can get into a more permanent place to set my 135 back up. The regal is just larger than a quarter right now, MAYBE a half dollar if I really stretched it so...

Seriously, how long until my Coral Beauty comes out in the open ?

I added a coral beauty Saturday evening to my 90 gallon tank and I was worried that he might decide to nip at my corals but I wanted to give him a shot because he looked so unhappy at Petco. His other tank mates are a medium yellow tang, a small hippo tang, single clown (yes I want to add more...

pom pom xenia & super glue

Rubber band works best IMO. The frag doesn't have to be straight up and down, just lay it on a small rock and wrap a rubber band around it.

Confirm Please - Blue or White lights for deep placed corals?

I love this site for comparing: 250Watt Bulb Comparison I think 8k would be way too low for looking good at all. I'm currently running a 14k on one side and a 20k on the other side of a 48" fixture to see which one I prefer. The 14k side is much whiter / brighter and is showing good growth...

Confirm Please - Blue or White lights for deep placed corals?

While I don't specifically know in regards to LED's with MH bulbs the lower the K the whiter the light and the greater PAR value you have at deeper depths. If the same holds true for LED's then the white panel would give greater light into the tank.

Tank water level has me BEYOND confused

My top off container is filled with fresh RO/DI water (never had salt in there). I understand why it dropped to .021 but I had to get my tank level back up for the skimmer and hang on fuge. I've unplugged my ATO and mixed up 5 gallons of new salt water which I plan on slowly using to bring sg...

Tank water level has me BEYOND confused

Side note: new mixed water shows 1.025 on refract.......still completely confused and looking for a leak somewhere.

Tank water level has me BEYOND confused

Both were done with RODI with fresh made water (I double checked them both this morning). Maybe I'll make some water and let it sit for a while to get to room temp and double check them. I've gone around the tank numerous times and for once being a not so uber clean person has paid off. There...

Tank water level has me BEYOND confused

Using refract and I have 2 of them that I have used for a while, checked with both (they differed by .001 but close enough in my book). The salinity is the part that's confusing the **** out of me. I mean I know that a closed house will cause higher rates of evap but I would have expected the...

Tank water level has me BEYOND confused

So I just set up my 90 in the apartment. I have a 12g top off tank and had the tank up and running for about 3 weeks. Lighting is an Outer Orbit 2x250 MH and 4x T5. Salinity was 1.024 after my last water change. During the 3 weeks top off was about 5-7 g a week although I always keep the...

    Hippo tang

If you happen to find yourself into SE PA (19335) I will give you a few sheets of what I have. My blue hippo (tiny) and Yellow Tang (med) go absolutely crazy when I put the clip into the tank.

    Doug's 250, now 300, in wall build

I've used Instant Ocean reef crystals for all my tanks and never had any issues.

    My 90Gallon Build

Doug, I might have to take you up on that one day. I can take some pics with the MH and then the T5's for comparison.

    Bristle worms?

If you get Peps that like them, historically my peps haven't even touched them.

    Bristle worms?

I try to get them all as I "believe" any in the system can spread throughout the entire system (so out of the fuge and up into the DT)

    My 90Gallon Build

I will say that I would not have gone with a purely MH fixture over this tank. The main reason I wanted this fixture was for the supplemental T5 lights for coloring. The color combinations you can get with T5 bulbs IMO fully win over just MH bulbs on their own. Right now it has the stock...

    My 90Gallon Build

Before I got this fixture I hung my 36" NEP (6x39w) over the tank as a temp solution and I got nowhere NEAR the same light (granted it was 39w bulbs and not 54's in the 48" fixture so not a completely fair comparison). I had a 33g cube set for a while with a 250mh pendant (talk overkill) and...

    My 90Gallon Build

The Outer Orbits have built in blue and white LED panels (3 panels, 6 LED's each on the 48"). They have been discontinued by Current but you can find quite a few used for sale as people move to LED's. I got mine used for $200 with 4 month old MH bulbs and needing new T5's.

    Anthelia and xenia

I'll wind up with xenia again (although a different shade then what you have) but it will be on a spaced away rock. For me at least xenia didn't spread through "chunks" the way anthelia did. This was the color I had: Pulsing Xenia - YouTube

    Anthelia and xenia

maybe in a low light area of your tank ? (corner / front edge ?) If so they would stretch to get more light.
  23. F

    Anthelia and xenia

I've never seen "pulsing" anthelia so my guess would be Xenia. By pulse do you mean it you turn off the pumps you can see it opening and closing with no flow in the tank ?. If so I'd guess Xenia.

    Hippo tang

Mine absolutely loves the Purple seaweed sheets (Two little fishies, Julian Sprungs). When I put it on a clip into the tank he goes crazy. I found mine at Petco.

    Bristle worms?

I leave them in my reefs, never seen them hurt anything coral or fish related and they seem to eat any leftovers / keep the small nooks in the rock cleaned out. The only issue I've ever had with them is when re-aquascaping. If you get stung by one they freaking hurt.
