    Shrimp suggestions - community 29G

To put it in perspective, here is an old image of my tank. As you can see there are a lot of hiding places for little shrimp. Perhaps that is how the first batch survived. The mollies, neons, platy, and betta are long gone but the layout is pretty much unchanged. I will check on the bamboo...

    Shrimp suggestions - community 29G

It is funny. The first batch of Ghost Shrimp I bought in Nov 2008 and they lasted over a year, it is only this round that I noticed one of them getting eaten. Otto would be an algae eater that gets up to 1-1.5 inches max. I had 3 of them but 2 didn't make it. The third I thought was long...

    Shrimp suggestions - community 29G

The tanks stats to the right are correct for my current configuration. In the past, I have always gone with ghost shrimp because they are easy to acquire and are pretty good scavengers, and are typically not hunters. The problem? I just bought 5 and can only find one. I did see one of my...

    New years babies!

Update: Dalmatian Creamsicle mollies? So my molly babies are getting older (and I have had another round of fry in the meantime) and some of the dalmatian mollies are starting to show orange tinting in addition to their spots. I have a mix of dalmatian mollies and creamsicles in my adult tank...

Bubble nest? Who did that? (pictures included)

Both spellings are accepted for the principle of Occam's Razor or Achem's Razor-to my knowledge. But if we are gonna be picky then actually it was named for the Franciscan friar William of Ockham-the spelling just changed over time. As far as vernacular is concerned, both occam or achem are...

    ghost shrimp with eggs

I have several ghost shrimp in my tank, one of them seems to be carrying a large number of greenish eggs under her. If i remove her and move her over to my nursery tank, do you think the eggs will be safe with my molly fry already in the nursery tank? I can try to get a pic of her tomorrow if...

    New years babies!

Thanks Mike! I do videography for a living so that is my SONY DSR-PD170 for most for the shots. My Canon Powershot gets confused with the bowfont and fluorescent light. The PD170 lets me take full control of the settings and use available light for the shots. Glad you enjoy the images. I...

CTD - thanks for the assurance, and jrp thanks for the jibe...I giggled...a little. But yeah I really don't feel that bad about it, just a little silly because I am a big fan of Achems Razor and that is definitely the simplest solution...

    New years babies!

New tank! Over the weekend, i decided the babies didn't have enough room in the nursery so i went out and bought a 20 gal long tank. They love the new home. i will try to post new pics soon.

Let me start by eating my foot...:foot: and wiping the egg off my face :eggface:And washing that down....:pepsi: Now moving on, I think you guys must be right. I didn't think about dissolved gas exiting the water via bubbles on the old heater but it makes a lot of sense. The back up filter (a...

Bubble nest? Who did that? (pictures included)

The first time I noticed them, i didn't think much of it, but with so many egg laden fish I figured maybe they had something to do with it. I also noticed one of my large mollies mouthing the bubbles and several of the shrimp picking them over. I guess they were just being playful or curious...

Bubble nest? Who did that? (pictures included)

Thank you for your insight. I will see if I can get a better pic but it is in a somewhat bad location in my tank for pics. I wasn't really sure what was going on there... Thanks. :thumb:

    New years babies!

Video Clip I had a little time to kill tonight so i thought I'd take a quick video clip of the babies. The smallish ones with the big eyes are the offspring of my orange and white molly.

Bubble nest? Who did that? (pictures included)

Quick note of the pics, I have 6 black skirted tetras and 3 of them are quite big. On the Danios, there are 5 danios and 3 of them are also quite big but are all way to fast for me to get pics of. Sorry about the inconsistency of the photos, they are just too darn fast! I am under the...

Bubble nest? Who did that? (pictures included)

This is the 2nd time in the last 2 weeks that i have found bubbles on the heater in my tank, I have 3 types of female egg layers that are egg laiden and I don't know who is responsible because I didn't think any of these types place bubbles around their eggs. Check out the pics and let me know...

    Starting my first planted FW

I hear what you are saying. To get the kind of results you experienced, I need to reconsider using CO2 and be thinking metal halide on the lighting. I have heard of people getting good results with "Flourish" ferts in place of CO2, does anyone have any thoughts on this?

    New years babies!

More babies So here we are, some time late last night my creamsicle molly gave birth. I salvaged at least ten this morning when i discovered them, and she apparently had at least 3 still born, and one yellow egg. I don't know how many (if any) she ate. They are very hard to photograph and...

    Mollie babies!!! :-o

I currently have several ghost shrimp (like Ben said, they are cheap and easy to replace if eaten) and 1 fidler crab. The only problem I have heard of with crabs is they are supposedly awesome escape artists. Mine likes to hang out on the top turret of my castle and gets his air time that way...

    Starting my first planted FW

Well I wasn't really considering it as 2 pumps to equalize but maybe I am getting hung up on semantics here. My thoughts were more along the lines of double insurance. think of it as 3 phases of failure. I would envision this as generally remaining in state 1 and in case of failure...

    Starting my first planted FW

jcarlilesiu- Thanks for your .02 on the Aquarium. I really like the "idea" of the depth and am very glad to hear of your experiences with this tank. I only have an idea, so it is good to take into account the experience of someone who has actually been there. I don't have the room for a...

    Starting my first planted FW

Maybe this is too complicated. Looking at it I see many more risks for a failure, more exposed seems, vinyl tubing, threaded adapters, the extension with the float valve. My hope was to have a way to continue flow between the tanks in case the siphon failed while I was not present. So what...

    Starting my first planted FW

I should have included this animation when i posted last night instead of the static image. I am planning on gluing it into 3 pieces. 2 bases that stay in the tank and then one upper assembly that extends into the water column. See Below. The upper assembly I am also planning on suspending...
