Anyone here go to Jack's Aquarium and Pets?

Sorry, flipz, but what you were told, is wrong. I actually work at Jack's warehouse, in their fishroom, and very very few of the fish come from breeders. The majority of all the fish come from large scale wholesalers in FL. What was said about each individual store varying, is absolutely right...

    The Local Fish Store

I spend way too much time(and money) in our lfs, almost daily in fact, because I work there :P Well for the next couple weeks anyway, I'm transfering to our warehouse where I'll be netting, bagging, and shipping fish :)

What brand of food do you feed your fish? And Why?

I use New Life Spectrum brand pellets, Hikari brand algae wafers, and both Hikari & Ocean Nutrition brand frozen foods (of many different varieties). I no longer use flakes, As to the reasons why, after trying just about every brand out there over the years, I've found my fish seem to look...

Pet store horror story (reptile related)

Yes leos are generally a bit more expensive per animal, unless your talking about some of the 'exotic' morphs, some of the prices on those are unbelievable. Prices on both these animals aren't THAT much different here, $15 for a baby iggy, $25 for a baby leo. But, as Millipede stated, by the...

Pet store horror story (reptile related)

You bet you do! :D As to this story, why is it people that work in such places seem to be afraid to simply say "I don't know"? , personally I won't think any less of that person for doing so, atleast it's an honest answer, I'd much rather get that then some bull they've made up off the top of...

Pet store horror story (reptile related)

Honestly, I dont know what kept me from speaking up, aside from not wanting to cuss my head off in front of two little kids...or maybe not wanting to end up in crap for drowning her in one of their fish tanks

Pet store horror story (reptile related)

I posted this over on www.reptileadvice.com already but wanted to post here too for anyone that doesn't read those forums but might be interested. And, oh btw, people really should join the reptile and bird forums, they are great! :D Anyway, on to the story. Walked into a local store today, to...

    10 galon

Menagerie, Just wanted to say, besides the fish you mentioned, there are a few other livebearers, they are just not common in the hobby. I'm currently keeping one of those not commonly seen, Ameca splendens.

    10 galon

Agreed oscarbreeder, the filter that came with the 2.5 is MUCH too small for a 10 gallon. I also second your recommendation of an AquaClear 150. Great filters, do a much better job then most filters three time their price and as you already said, you can't have too much filteration. Angela

Recommend an ideal tank size for Discus fish...

Patwa, A 90 gallon would be perfect. As sofia stated, Discus require in the range of 10-15 per fish. And just so ya know, I expect pictures when the tank is finished :) I'm a huge Discus fan, thinking of setting up my 75 gallon for a group of them. I kept them for many years and really miss...

    aquaclear 500 question

I wouldnt by the Amrid insert period, although Hagen's aquatic supplies are generally great, the Amrid is garbage, it does little, if anything, to help with ammonia. All the AquaClears I've had, I've actually preferred to use just foam, normally didnt even bother with carbon, just two foam...
