Do I need to cycle a betta tank/bowl?

Thanks for you help. :) Also, is it ok to put a male and a female in the same tank? Or will they end up fighting?...

Lots of Questions About Starting a Brackish Tank

OK, lots of questions here about brackish tanks. :) I have some brackish fish in my freshwater tank and I want to start a brackish tank and move them. Here are the fish that I have, and I'm reading different things, so I'm not sure which fish are actually brackish and which aren't. Anyone know...

Do I need to cycle a betta tank/bowl?

I'm thinking about getting a small tank/large bowl for a male betta. Do I need to cycle the tank/bowl? I've never heard of anyone doing this, but I don't see why it wouldn't need to be done. Is there anything special I need to know about bettas? All I really know is that I can't put 2 males...

What kind of fish is this?

I'm sure this section is meant for identifying fungus and stuff like that, but I figured this is a good place to post a picture of my mystery fish (the one on the left). I don't remember what it said at the fish store I bought it at, anyone know the name of it? Thanks. :)

Freshwater & Brackish Fish In The Same Tank?

I just learned what a brackish tank is. I have what I thought was a freshwater tank, but I add aquarium salt to it, so does that mean it's a brackish tank? How much salt needs to be added for it to be considered brackish? Also, I searched for a list of brackish fish and realized that some of...

I'm thinking I should just start over...

So, my fish still have ick, and I keep giving them meds, but the meds are probably killing the biological filter as well as making the water dirtier because I had to take the carbon out for the meds to work. At this point I've lost most of them already, and I'm pretty sure the 5 I have left are...

    Cycling and Ick Questions

I thought about it for a sec and figured it out, pwc = periodic water changes. I usually do 25%-50% about every 3 days.

    Cycling and Ick Questions

So I'm in the process of cycling my 10 gallon freshwater tank, I've had the tank for 2 weeks with fish in it, and even though I didn't even now about cycling until after I already got the fish, I'm lucky that I still have 2 balloon mollies, a platy, and 3 fancy guppies. I'm going to take the...

I had no idea it was so easy for fish to die...please help me...

"By raising salt levels to 2-3 ppm or 1.002-1.003 specific gravity above what one normally keeps the tank at can destroy the Ich parasites. It has a strong effect on osmosis, and dehydrates the parasite to the point the parasite can no longer function and dies. Again, raising levels slowly but...

I had no idea it was so easy for fish to die...please help me...

Cloudy eyeball on my fish?? Thank you all for your help. As it stands now, I haven't had anymore dead fish since the dead tetras, but now one of my platies has a goofy looking eye. It kind of looks cloudy, and he still has a white spot (just one for some reason) on his tail fin. I'm wondering...

I had no idea it was so easy for fish to die...please help me...

OK, upon more research I think I'm finally getting it...fish put ammonia in the water, the good bacteria will turn the ammonia into nitrites, and then the good bacteria will eventually turn the nitrites into nitrates... So what if my level of nitrates is too high? Just keep doing water changes...

I had no idea it was so easy for fish to die...please help me...

Lastly, does this mean that because I didn't cycle my tank for 6-8 weeks that my fish are for sure going to die?...

I had no idea it was so easy for fish to die...please help me...

I'm also now reading that replacing 25% of the water is too much and it stresses the fish...BUT THAT'S WHAT THE BOX OF ICK CLEAR SAYS TO DO. It seems like everything I do to make things better is potentially hazardous...

I had no idea it was so easy for fish to die...please help me...

I ran into another problem, after posting the above thread, I went to look at the fish and noticed one of them had ick again. So I had to take out 25% of the water and replace it before putting more medication in. Also, I had to take out the carbon filter, how long am I supposed to leave it out...

I had no idea it was so easy for fish to die...please help me...

I got a 10 gallon fish tank for Christmas and I set it up on Friday night with neon tetras, fancy guppies, platies, balloon mollies, and a plecostamus. I woke the next morning to find all but one of my neon tetras dead, along with one of my guppies and my plecostomus. My friend pointed out the...
