    my fis have ich whitespot

Salt or meds are going to affect some plants, even at half doses....You can up the temp as close to 90*F as you dare and hope the ick organisms die before your fish do.....I haven't had ick in over 20 years so I am not up to date with any current meds that might work for you.

    Tetras in an ignored tank...

To simplify things; why don't you get them to give you the whole mess...Then you could start it from scratch in your on home....Just convince them of the cruelty of allowing fish to suffer as they have been doing and probably will do again as soon as you leave.

    new cycle question

What do you consider a "fully cycled" tank if it is an 'on going process"?.......Note: when a tank is started from scratch it will take considerably longer than 12 hrs. to convert the ammonia and nitrite to nitrate. Many like myself use the term "cycle or cycled" to describe the maturing of...

    new cycle question

"ammonia and nitrites are consumed by the nitrates in a short period of time 12 hours maybe"........This statement is totally false.....Bacteria convert the ammonia and nitrite into nitrate...It takes a lot longer than 12 hours for this process to occur.. Research aquarium cycling so that you...

    Pictus catfish

They are primarily a nocturnal fish....They will eat most anything you feed...If you do not have a good hiding place for it and your tank is brightly lighted, the fish will be stressed.....Try feeding it when the light is off.

    Tetras in an ignored tank...

If you attempt to clean it all at one time you will stress and kill the fish......If you put the fish in a bucket they will stress..... No ammonia and high nitrates show that the tank has an active bio system that you don't want to kill off......Do small water changes using a vacuum to remove...

    Washing Your Hands...

"Do a water change of about 80%."....Fishyfanatic, that is a really big water change....Why not dump the whole tank and start form scratch? Wouldn't a water change that big require that the make up water be treated and aged to attempt matching the conditions that will not shock the fish and...

Rosy Tetra not eating, not happy?

Autopsywoman, what is the name brand of the Nesseler type kit that you have?....Most test kits do read total ammonia (Nh3 and Nh4).....Most water conditioners reduce the total ammonia to Nh4 which will still affect the test result....Also a low ph reduces Nh3 to Nh4. Irregardless....There will...

Please help Identify this lil Guy...

It is probably one of the Metynnis Silver Dollars.....It can get quite big if it is fed properly(lots of veggies).........They are skittish fish and can hurt themselves when they are startled.......How big is it now?....Can you increase the light in the room before turning the tank light on.so...

Rosy Tetra not eating, not happy?

The ammonia reading of 8.0 has to be a false positive, because if it were that high the fish would be dead.

A Fresh start and new opportunities.

Get the tank cycled and the biggest filter system you can find. Then get into a good tank maintenance routine of water changes and debris removal.
