    Python system for water changes?

Yea! Don't know what I would do with my 120 without the python :) Soaked floors and buckets are a pain :? and if the better half notices I get chased around with a wet mop  Ya I just had to replace the ballvalve and 2 connectors that broke one after the other. If you look around it is...

    glue for PVC connections?

It is not an epoxy, the PVC "glue" is a solvent that for a second melts the two pieces and when they harden up again the PVC is welded together. Solvent just evaporates away, leaving nothing but a interesting smell. If you have a lot to do, open a window :P

Do you go fishing for sport?

Yes but I have a curse on me, anytime I show up nobody on the lake or river catch anything. Sometimes for days after I have been there. So actually my attempts at angeling is saving the fish.

What brand/model/type/DIY lighting system do you use?

My 15 gal has 1 - 18inch tube, no plants. My 33 gal has 3 different tubes and is close to 3 watts a gallon, it has CO2 injection and only a java fern and 4 angles remainng in it  . My 120 gal just has a shoplight fixture with a daylight and gro tube totaling 80watts. No plants in the...

    building material

Aqurium safe silicone cement is about all I would trust inside a tank. Not sure what makes it Aqurium safe, the normal tub&tile silicone is much cheaper. But I would not want to risk my fish.

    think our hobby is expensive?

Cute dogs :D I don't find Aquariums expensive at all so long as I stay out of the LFS's.

    shell dwellers

I think the ocellatus are great. Supposedly they need about 6 sq.in. of sand space each but I don't think the fish knows that. Very territoral. They have great antics as they move huge amounts of sand, burry shells and even try to steal each others shells.

    What else do I need?

Yep the old BlockHead :P http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/s_casuarius.php According to above link the 4 inch is an adult female, the adult male grows to 6 inches.

    Cichlid tank=Ph+salt ??

Yes you are right :!: Nitrates would build up over time unless used by something, or manually removed. I guess since I do at least 1/3 water change every week, about 40gal in my case I have not been able to measure them. BTW: the only fish I have ever been really bitten by was a Lamprologus...

    Cichlid tank=Ph+salt ??

I tried using the salt to start with, but did not see any improvements in my 120gal Malawi tank. So I gave up on it, the crushed coral will dissolve and increase hardness over time. I am using a mix(fish mixed it  , started off with 1/2 tank bottom covered with crushed coral the other half...

    Cichlid Compatibitly Question

Shellies are incredible to watch, very funny antics. I am trying hard not to buy another tank and to wait for either my 15 or 33 to become free some day, so I can start a shelly only tank. Really I am not going to get another tank, really...

New 125 gallon, what to do?

IMHO: The first thing would be to find a nice safe, stable place to set it up, a 125 gal will weigh in at close to a ton when full of gravel/rock/water. Then start the cycle process, either using a few hardy fish or bio-spira. Using live fish the cycle will take weeks, before you can start to...

    Python malfunctions

UGH, My Python must have reached its self destruct date  Last weeks water change the on/off valve split in half(nicely hosed the floor down), so I bought a new one. This week a fitting at both end (looks like the same part) split. Water that runs through it is always 80degrees, and I...

    Camera Choices

:D Tank's :D All I have to do is get through all the instructions. Things that cost this much should not need instructions!!!!! Way too many buttons and dials, even a tiny thumb joystick on the back 8O . Also I have to get a really nasty algae growth off my glass, won't come off with the...

    How many have mts?

I'm trying to cut back, and am down to 3 active tanks(120 / 33 / 15 gal) and 1 goldfish/koi pond. Although I am having an itch to start a Chcilid shelly tank, those little guys are a hoot to watch.

    Camera Choices

Well, I finally broke down and upgraded my old Nikon 5400 P&S to a Canon EOS 20D 8.2 million effective pixels, 8.5 total pixels. Image processor: DIGIC II Image sizes 3504 x 2336 (8.2 MP) Camera writes RAW and jpeg HI files at the same time ISO 100-3200 9-point TTL autofocus Burst rate of 5...

    Problems with Hagen CO2

I have it working on a tank and it takes 3-4 days till it starts to make fairly consistent bubbles that last for 2-3 weeks and you have to start over. My tanks are in a basement that in the winter dosen't get much over 60f. But the CO2 chamber is hung on the back of a tank at 80f so it gets...

    Now I have seen everything....!

:) :) You need one of those little plastic funnel collars they put on dogs to stop them biting themselves. :) :)

How do you get through to really stubborn people???

For those tank keeping practices, I recommend adding some plastic fish. They are a lot harder to kill.
