    Bigger = Better?

So I've had my 15 gallon Fish only tank set up for over 2 years now. I have a clown fish and a blue damsel (I think). I just got a feather duster. The tank has done reasonably well. I, too have some algae problems and have just taken the plunge on a RO/DI purifier. My question: I am...

    Rethinking set-up

Since I wasn't planning on adding anything live to the tank until the end of March, I figured I would put the new LR in the tank and let it mini-cycle again. Thanks for all the advice!!

    Rethinking set-up

Both of your suggestions are helpful. I have put LR rubble in my HOB from the LFS and 5 lbs LR in the tank. Am waiting for 20 more lbs from online. I think the tank has finished cyling with Nitrites, and ammonia both at zero. I did a PWC and Nitrates also at zero. I just got 2 Koralia...

    Clueless about lighting

I think I'll go with the T5. The whole hanging thing just weirds me out a little. I'm sure I will fall in love with some SPS later and end up replacing it though! That is usually how things work. I am also worried about the top-off. I would like to keep the maintenance as straight forward...

    Clueless about lighting

I am trying to decide about lighting for my 15 gallon FOWLR. I am just getting started in SW and have no idea where I may want to end up with Corals etc. (at this point, I'm hoping I can keep LR and 2 fish alive...) I have been reading a lot about the metal halide vs the T5HO lights and am...

    Rethinking set-up

After doing a lot more research on this forum and in books I am rethinking my set up. My LFS told me my 15 gallon bow-front tank with a hang-over-the-back penguin power 150 filter and a heater (50W I think) would be fine. I put 20 lbs of sand in the tank and a large ornament (am considering...

    Newbie Question re:cycling

You mean b/c it will be covered in sea algae or that the live rock would be prettier in the tank in the long run?

    Newbie Question re:cycling

Thanks, that was my question. I'm not planning on adding fish until end of March, so I have plenty of time to nurture nitrofication bacteria...

    Newbie Question re:cycling

Live rock - uh yeah I posted a new thread about the live rock question. I have a castle-like structure thing. I was hoping that it would colonize into live rock...???

    Newbie Question re:cycling

More Newbie Questions re:live rock This may seem like an idiot question, but live rock is just rock that has been colonized with good bacteria, correct? The reason I ask is that my husband bought me a really neat looking castle structure for my 15 gallon SW tank. It really does look cool, but I...

    Newbie Question re:cycling

No I don't have any LR in the tank. Just sand and water... I checked my pH and it is too high- 8.8. Will get some pH down today and possibly some rock. After reading the hints page on cycling I turned my temp up to 87. I will adjust the pH and keep checking. It seems like I add...

    Newbie Question re:cycling

Ok, I got a 15 gallon tank for Christmas. I read, read, read until the middle of Jan. Then I decided to start cycling. I added a dead shrimp and let it sit in the tank until it smelled. I only got 0.5ppm Ammonia reading. I took the shrimp goo out of the tank on husband's urging. Bought...
