    I personally like to use a product called Seachem Purigen to polish my water. If you think a tank is clear, put some purigen in and then you will really see what clear is.

    Look in the classifieds, there is a guy selling a Rena xp2 for $50. I pmd him and shipping was only $10. You couldnt build a canister for less than that. The Rena xp2 will be more than enough for your tank. Just trying to help.
