    FW Plant Package

Plant question I was looking at your listing and picture and I have a question. I clicked on your 29 gallon tank pictures. I was wondering what the plant is in the lower right hand corner of your tank. Looks like sag, but I am not sure. I would love to have some of this. Thank you much!

New to plants. Do I need CO2?

I am jealous of your new substrate. Sounds like you have got it all planned out and working for you. Try to find a few root balls of driftwood in the lake and take the chainsaw to them. I mount all of my driftwood to slate to keep it down. Good luck!

    so many snails and how

Yeah. It kills all micro organisms too. It works great!! It will kill about anything living on a plant. Best part is, you can leave a plant in there for a good amount of time without damaging it. It makes your skin feel strange though. LOL.

All of my decisions are pending on my wife's opinion too. I know how that is. Let us know if we can do anything else!

New to plants. Do I need CO2?

Again, it all depends on the plants that you choose. Like Kristin said, I would buy some plants that would grow quickly and eat up nutrients quickly so that algae wouldn't have time to grow.

New to plants. Do I need CO2?

I would say a light with the color temp from 5600-5700 k. I have had lost of success with these "daylight" bulbs. Also, a co2 tank online for a 5lb (which is small) would run you about $50. You also have to buy a regulator, cheapest I have found online is about $60. Then you have to buy a needle...

New to plants. Do I need CO2?

I think that light will be great. I also thought that the wpg rule worked with those too. I have always used it anyways on my compacts. I would buy this fixture and all the plants that you need and add them to the tank and see what happens. if you get some algae growth or if the plants don't...

New to plants. Do I need CO2?

When you say compact flourescent, which kind of bulbs are you speaking of? the spiral ones that screw in to incidescent fixtures or is this actually a lighting fixture for an aquarium? could you possibly send the link to the lights that you are thinking of buying? also, you should look for low...

New to plants. Do I need CO2?

Yes, if you have too much light, you could get an algea bloom. That is, if your plants are not pulling the nutrients away from the algae. Basically, it is plants vs. algae. If you have co2 in place, plants will use up more nutrients with the light they are recieving. You can always use less...

New to plants. Do I need CO2?

Hello! CO2 can help with algae, but is not a solution to having a algae free tank. Basically, injecting CO2 will help your plants with photosynthesis. If the plants don't have enough CO2 in the water, then they can't use much light or nutrients to convert to chlorophyll. You don't have to use...

Tiger Barb sinking on the bottom of tank!

Forgot to mention this. Usually swim bladders issues can not be repaired or treated. I am not sure what to tell you to do for the little guy. Read the link and see if that is what you are experiencing. If so, you might want to consider putting him by himself if he is getting fin nipped.

Tiger Barb sinking on the bottom of tank!

This sounds like a swim bladder disorder from what i read. You should google swim bladder disorder and see if this is kinda what you are experiencing. Actually, here is a link. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Fish-1472/Molly-Fish-Sinking.htm Your tank paramaters look good. I really hope this helps!

    first timer w/ a 55

You should set the rocks up like you want them and use aquarium sealant to seal them together. Let them dry for a few days then fill it up. This technique works great. Keeps them together and from falling and hurting your fish or busting your tank. Try not to get silicon on the front of the...

    Cherry barb eggs

This is what I do, you might consider this. I had a few zebas that would fly through some of my stem plants and deposit eggs. I vacuumed under the stem plants and looked inside of the bucket that the water went into. You can only do a little at a time. I found eggs and fry this way. If you have...

Is driftwood from the lake safe?

That should work pretty well. I am always afraid of adding bleach to anything that could potentially soak it in. I might give it a shot one of these days though.

    so many snails and how

alum is added to pickling solutions. well, from what i understand it is. it looks and feels like a mix between salt and baking soda. it comes in a jar or plastic "shaker". Cheap and easy to use, works like a charm too.

    20 gallon stock

Sweet, I love Rasboras. I will have to keep that in mind! i figure small tetras would be ok too. I am afraid of buying a 2 dollar shrimp then losing it because of a hungry fish.

10 Gallon tank water keeps turning Green...

I have never really found an algaecide that actually works on algae. LOL. I just got tired of wasting my money on it. I noticed some effects to zebra danios in one of my tanks though. After adding some liquid to a tank, they would start swimming around like mad, then slam into the tank glass and...

    20 gallon stock

I am using 2 3 gallon eclipses right now. I have a 10 gallon setup and cycling. Will be moving them in a few weeks. You can put a bunch of shimp in a 20 gallon though!

Mantis shrimp Deep Freeze or Live

I read that it is humane to cut the head off or to drop them into boiling water. I don't think either of these are very humane. I wouldn't know what to do. Good luck finding him or her a home though.
