Am I getting near max capacity?

I think you'll find that most people that keep aquariums seriously are very passionate about the inhabitants we have chosen to care for. I don't see this as a casual hobby.

    GREAT news!

Am I getting near max capacity?

Very sorry to read you are experiencing aggression but I must congratulate you on recognizing it and doing, IMO, the right thing by returning the fish to the LFS.

VERY true and thanks, this thread and I needed this bit of humor.

90 Gallon tank Upgrade Setup ?

My first question for you would be to ask are you setting up a reef tank, FOWLR, or FO tank?? I have a similar setup at 90 gallons except bulkheads are 1" and 3/4", on a reef tank, and I use the Mag12. What I've done is on my return line I'v added a T in the plumbing, with a valve and tubing...

    Lighting question

Do you have anything else in the tank? I would be more concerned about any fish then the coralline. The sudden increase in light can stress fish also. With that said I have a smaller tank, 90 gallons. I am running 2 x 250 watt MH's and 2 x 110 watt VHO's. The VHO's come on at 11 am, the...

    Designing a sump

I agree. I've used this site for reference when building all 3 of my sumps/fuges. Melev is also very active on another board and has always responded to questions ask.

might be a silly question, but

I've read but can't find the exact source that saltwater weights 8.3 lbs per gallon. BTW ............... the only silly question is the one that doesn't get ask.

Am I getting near max capacity?

ryguy, There are no hard feelings as far as I'm concerned and I apologize to you as well. I did feel attacked on my opinions and responded by attacking in return. I am of the opinion that putting fish into an aquarium that have...

Am I getting near max capacity?

Not my intentions at all. Unless your an advocate of this kind of husbandry. I'm simply making a point on this particular thread. We agreed on the overstocking. My personal opinion is to try something like this after so many have failed is not being responsible. You decided to "rant" when I...

Am I getting near max capacity?

Preaching?? ....... well maybe so but I'll guarantee you if you ask this person in 3-6 months what the outcome of this situation was it will be something that ended in either the death or return to the LFS of one or more of the mentioned fish. These "rules of thumb" that some of us like to use...

    RO/DI Install

http://www.airwaterice.com/product/AH14 http://www.airwaterice.com/product/AF Thats a couple of options for a temporary hookup. I personally used the faucet adapter for a couple of years with RO/DI setting in bathroom floor beside sink. I finally made a permanent install under kitchen...

    Dosing Questions

Ask your LFS what brand they are using to make the "pre-made saltwater" and if at all possible use it. You can switch brands but some say its risky but if done should be done very slowly. I personally use Instant Ocean and have since I started my tank. My LFS uses Tropic Marin and swears by it.

Am I getting near max capacity?

Not to sound like an a$$ here but IMO you've not only exceeded the limit for your tank but are bordering on unethical. The tangs will shortly either outgrow the tank and make a return trip to the LFS or simply not survive.

    No acclimation?

Re: hey This probably stressed the heck out of the fish!!! Sure hope you didn't repeat the LFS's mistake and allowed this fish to acclimate slowly.

Help me ger rid of my algae PLEASE!

IMHO the only way you'll beat this is by efficient nutrient removal and running a good skimmer continuously is your best defense. Also ..... maybe I missed it during my reading but what are your feeding habits?

The ONLY stupid question is the one that is not asked.

Frozen brine shrimp...an idiot question, I know...

Cut a small portion of the cube then place that small portion in a cup of tank water to thaw and then add to the tank. The whole cubes are to much and will only pollute your tank with uneaten food ......... unless you have other fish you didn't mention.

    Heater exposed to air

Only thing about reusing this heater that would concern me would be your above statement. For water to sizzle would mean its at or above boiling point which is 212 degrees. These heaters don't get that hot normally and only thing I can think of that would cause this would be a electrical short.

    The Great crab escape??

I never had that problem. I had 2 cleaner shrimp during my mantis period and didn't loose either until the addition of a Coral Banded shrimp.

    The Great crab escape??

YES they are! I heard the one in my tank for months before finally spotting him and spent several more months trying to catch or trap. It finally got into my overflow and I was able to catch it. All total over a year from first hearing to final removal.
