    Hi everybody! I'm back!

And I have a ton of things I'd love to share with this forum. My 75G FOWLR has been a work in progress, lots of things I've done. I hope in sharing the things I've made, I can help others that are working on projects. It's great to be back! :D

How long to leave tank empty?

I had a minor ick outbreak... then a pretty substantial outbreak... then a total catastrophic fish loss. Now the tank only has one chromis' in it and after posting this I'll move him to QT. (I hate learning things the hard way :() My question is: How long should I leave the DT empty? I've...

About to give up with SW.

Against many peoples opinions, I decided to try the "reef safe" and "snake oil" treatments out there to try to get rid of Ick. WASTE OF MONEY! >_< I should have known better, but failures are just an unfortunate way to learn. (Yes, you all were right.) So, what exactly should I do...

    Lighting

I have PC's over my tank and I can't seem to get that "bright" look. Is it a water clarity issue? or is it just the choice of bulbs? I got 2x 55W actinics and 2x 10000K daylight. Any ideas?

    Crazy "other" solution to Ich?

I bought a bottle of Ich Attack from the store tonight, and after researching it out more, I'm pretty sure it won't help. So, instead of going for copper or formalin based treatments, or even hypo, I was wondering if it was possible to just let it "work itself out"? It's probably a really bad...

I knew it was going too well. :(

I have a 75G FOWLR that I set up around July last year. I cycled the tank with uncured rock, levels tested good. Added a pair of clowns, a few weeks later a lawnmower blenny. Just a week or so ago I added a bi-color angel, 5 chromis, a diamond goby, and 10 hermits/snails. Then on thursday I...

    Chromis' war?

This may be the wrong topic to post under but I'm worried. I got 5 chromis, at first they were doing fine. Now two of them (the smaller ones) have nip marks from the bigger chromis. I put one down in the sump to keep him away from everyone for a while, is this OK to do? Also, is it normal for...

    Pan World NH-100PX fan?

Anyone have any ideas on how to remove the fan on the back of the motor? I got the little C clip off but the fan won't budge. (It's too loud for my taste so I'm gonna mod it and install a new one) It seems to be rusted on or something... Also, is using Vaseline on the O rings a bad idea? (for...

    Moonlights

I wanted to have a night light for the fish, but didn't want to pay 30 bucks for a little LED assembly. So, I went to the computer store and picked up some computer case lights, got some aluminum foil from the kitchen (The reason is twofold, to reflect the light down and also to attempt to...

    Kole tang?

I'm not sure if it's too much but it would be the last fish added to the tank. So far I have two clowns, a lawnmower blenny, sandsifting goby, bi-color angel, 5 chromis, and snails/hermits. Livestock is 30% off at the LFS (If I read the ad right) so I want to take advantage of it. If the kole...

    Finally got some real fish!

Went to the LFS today, 20% off everything sale. Pretty sweet. :D I picked up a bi color angel, 5 blue chromis, 10 snails, 10 hermits, and a sandsifting goby. (Pics after I get my fire hazard of a light back together. :()

    AHH! Fire hazard?

I was attempting to clean the reflector on my Coralife PC light fixture today. When I pulled off the side cover I noticed a wire nut was brown. Upon closer examination it turns out the thing is burned and melted along with maybe 1" of wire on either side. The insulation is all still there, it's...

    I'm sort of stumped.

I have a 20g long sump under my 75g. I want to take it out to replace it with (2) 10g tanks, One only for a fuge and the other for a skimmer/heater/etc. They will be connected together (probably going to drill one of them). The problem is I can't get the 20g out from under neith my stand! The...

    Algae turf scrubber.

Anyone have one? If so, is it effective? I made one out of a bucket, a light bulb, and a Lego base board. I have a massive hair algae problem and I'm thinking it has to be phosphates seeing as the nitrates are around 15-20.

    Apple juice skimmer V2.0

I re-worked my DIY skimmer and as far as I'm concerned, it works pretty good! Here's some pics of what it looks like. It's basically a one pump recirculating skimmer. The valve controls how high the water is in the chamber (and how much is recirculated). There was originally a neck washing...

    Lawnmower Blenny not eating?

It may be too early to panic, but I don't want to starve the little guy to death. I got a lawnmower yesterday and he seems to be doing fine. The problem is he seems to only hide and not come out and eat. (I realize they hide, but he won't come out at all). There's plenty of algae in the tank for...

    Lionfish ID?

I've seen this picture a few times on the web, I can't tell if its real or it's just a modded photo. Any idea? I'd say its quite beautiful.

    Quick question about refugiums

Long time no post. Busy with school. (fun.. :() Anyway, As I understand it, a fuge is a good place to grow pods and macro algae. My question is, if the pods are meant to be food for stuff in the display tank then how do they get up there? Doesn't the pump chop them up? Wouldn't it work better...

    Hmmm... Dripping bulkhead

I have a 1" bulkhead on the drain of my overflow. I knew there was a tiny leak between the pipe and the bulkhead (since I didn't glue it properly...) But now its more of a drip. I need to do it right, the only trouble is the tank is full and I can't take out the PVC and glue it in right. Are...

    Another stocking question.

The two clowns I have in my 75G are doing great. Now I want to consider other additions. How's this sound? Three cardinals, a firefish, royal gramma, algae blenny, some sort of angel OR a tang OR a butterfly fish of some kind, and 2 blue chromis. I want to add some inverts, but that will be...

    Frozen vs. Freeze Dried

I may be putting this in the wrong thread, but I just have to ask. What's the difference between freeze dried and frozen? (Aside from the fact one is actually freezing and the other is pretty much dehydrated, I understand the physical part xD) I was just wondering if I can get freeze dried foods...

    Oh man, Big mistake?

Good news, bad news. I GOT CLOWNS! Bad news: I went out for Halloween and came back and the drip line siphon stopped. So there was only a little big more water than what the bag had in it. I got worried about them not being warm enough, so I netted them out of that water and put them in the...

    DIY Thermoelectric heater?

Anyone done it before? I have a 10G and the heater decided to break a while ago, I noticed tonight it gets rather cold in there, so I was thinking why not make one with a thermoelectric heat pump? A water "cooled" heatsink that removes heat from the air and dumps it in the water. The only...

    LED Moon light color

I was rummaging through my electronics parts box and found a bunch of LED's. Does anyone know what the best color would be? Red and green are all I have but I can get blue. (if red works, that would be awesome seeing as I have a ton of them.)
